Best Female
While the SLAM! writers and readers had a big problem with the female "talent" that was brought in this year by way of the Diva Challenge, there were some actual wrestlers that did impress us this year. Here's who we thought was the top female grappler of 2004.
What We Thought
Jason Clevett - Trish Stratus. In addition to being a very good wrestler this year, Trish was involved in two of the long-term angles - with Chris Jericho and Christian, and with Lita. Her bitchy, cocky, heel persona absolutely rocked my socks off this year and she continues to improve by leaps and bounds each day.
Yves Leroux - Trish Stratus. In my mind, only Trish had an outstanding year. None of the others even got close to what Trish accomplished.
Bob Kapur - Trish Stratus. Since the roster was cut way too deeply this year, the choices for this category were quite limited. Trish was by far the most entertaining woman on Raw - heck, some weeks the most entertaining person on Raw.
Corey David Lacroix - Ayako Hamada (GAEA/AJW). The top
freelance female wrestler in Japan, Hamada is active with various Joshi promotions
in Japan. Having runs as champion in both GAEA and AJW, Hamada continues to
be in demand for her high-flying brand of wrestling. Now if we could only get
her booked in Canada and the United States and wow the wrestling masses.
Jon Waldman Trish Stratus. My girl Trish turned in another great year this year, showing she can work both the heel and face sides very well. She's raised herself to the upper eschelon of workers like Chris Jericho and The Rock who can entertain a crowd, whether they are supposed to get cheers or jeers. The decision was really close, however, because Lita had a hell of a year as well. The fiery redhead likely would have taken the nod had she been working more in the ring this year.
