A week ago, the SLAM! staff offered their thoughts on the top moments of
2004. These moments primarily centred around two wrestlers - Eddy Guererro
and Chris Benoit.
It seems, however, that our readers had a bit more diversity in their
selections. Here's what you thought were the top moments of the past year.
S.J. Northey
I think the best moment, bar none was the Benoit/Orton handshake
following Orton's victory. Orton's genuine emotion over winning, coupled with that moment, helped show the World Title still does really mean something.
Marc Patenaude
For me, the highlight of wrestling in 2004 is finally seeing Shelton
Benjamin getting a good run with the IC title and shining as a singles competitor.
He's one of the most energetic and energizing (from a fan's standpoint)
wrestlers on Raw right now.
Van Seggelen
For me, the top moment of 2004 was hearing the roar of the crowd for
Winnipeg's own Chris Jericho at the Winnipeg Arena, as we showed the world what an
awesome wrestling town Winnipeg really is.
(Editor's note: Can't disagree with you one bit ;) ).
Blair Burch
To me there were so many highlights it's hard to come up with one. TNA
positioning themselves to go to the big time is a major one (though they really have
to braodcast Impact on the Canadian feed of FSN; Bit Torrent isn't going to
last forever to let us watch it). Other highlights included the six-sided ring
being added to TNA, giving a whole new dimension to North American wrestling;
the Benoit/Eddy moment at Wrestlemania, without which the entire year would
have been a throwaway for the WWE; Raven still being in the ring, and more
importantly on a mic; and Team Canada's never ending push of course has to get
honorable mention out of pure national pride. :)
