Neidhart still has it at 44
Says he's very lucky
By CARY CASTAGNA -- Winnipeg Sun

The Anvil

Back in his WWF glory days as one-half of the world tag-team champion Hart Foundation, Jim (The Anvil) Neidhart figured he would hang up his pink wrestling tights long before he turned 40. But thanks to a combination of genetics, hard work in the gym and luck, the pro wrestling legend says he's still a formidable foe in the squared circle at 44 years old.

"As far as longevity, guys aren't lasting past 42. It's way too hard on your body," Neidhart told The Sun yesterday in a phone interview from his Calgary home. "I'm in really good shape. I have extremely good genetics. I'm just very, very lucky."

And if you don't believe the 6-foot, 285-pound rassler, you can judge for yourself tonight at the Lid Nightclub at 2935 Pembina Hwy., where he will headline Premier Championship Wrestling's Christmas Classic.

Neidhart is slated to face PCW heavyweight champion "Outlaw" Adam Knight in a title match.

"I'm just really looking forward to wrestling in Winnipeg. The fans are always really good out there," Neidhart said. "It's a really good wrestling town. It always has been a good wrestling town and hockey town."

Described as a "tank" by his former tag-team partner Bret (The Hitman) Hart, Neidhart has been keeping busy in recent years on the independent wrestling circuit, grappling all over the world.

Besides continuing to wrestle "until I die in the ring," Neidhart said he's looking to prolong his acting career, which includes three movies with Hulk Hogan.

In January, Neidhart is set to start shooting on a version of the Fear Factor game show in England. He's also working toward his real estate licence.

"The real estate market out here is really booming," he said. "You'd be surprised how much you can make in real estate."

Tonight's wrestling card, which is set to start at 9 p.m., is in support of Winnipeg Harvest. Fans are asked to bring food items to the show.
