Smackdown: A festive affair
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

Ah, Thanksgiving, a time where we give thanks for what we have and hold dearest to our hearts. It is custom that on Thanksgiving that WWE runs a special Smackdown headlined by a food fight, exploiting women dressed as Pilgrims and Indians and loaded with plenty of pumpkin pie. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Thanksgiving edition of Smackdown!

WWE opens the show thanking the Armed Forces for their services. I couldn't agree more.

Torrie Wilson comes out and wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. She leads us into our opening contest...

Match One- Rey Mysterio vs Rene Dupree w/ Fifi

Rene's eye is almost completely swelled shut due to Hardcore Holly's beat down over the weekend. Yikes! It's too bad Holly has such a temper. Dupree starts off by taking Rey down and kicking him. Tremendous power displayed by Dupree, as he holds Rey over his head for a delayed vertical suplex. Rey hits his signature spots and keeps Dupree at bay. Dupree gets back up and does the French Tickler, it tickles me. Dupree is caught off guard and hit into the ropes, given the 6-1-9, Rey drops the Dime and its over.

Winner via Pinfall- Rey Mysterio

We go backstage and see Kenzo Suzuki watching a monitor. Hiroko asks what part of the turkey he wants. Kenzo, while looking at Torrie says he wants breasts. Good call Kenzo! Hiroko runs away in disbelief. Get over it honey!

We then go to a flashback of what happened with the Tough Enough boys last week. I'll tell you, Puder almost had those Basham Brothers.

We come back to a cartoon with a turkey dressed like Carlito spitting an apple into another turkey's face. Ha Ha, good stuff.

The Tough Enough boys come out and its time to see who is hitting the bricks, but likely to return when the competition is over, cough, cough Diva Search, cough, cough. Reeves broke two ribs last week, damn another one. He is asked if he wants to quit, to which he said "No." Dan Roadheimer is eliminated, BOOOOO! Tazz strongly disagreed with the decision and made that clear. I too was against this decision, Roadheimer had a character and that's the first step to being something in this business. Tonight there will be a mini arm wrestling tournament. Puder takes on Mike of The Real World, Mike is left handed, but had to compete right handed due to the rules. Mike is made short work of as Puder moves on. Reeves then took on Justice, who he defeated, to move on to the finals. Justice says Puder will win, while Mike says Reeves will win. Puder and Reeves lock it up, and good ol' Puder wins again. This kid cannot be stopped. He's my pick to win.

Backstage Eddie Guerrero and Booker T talk about beating up JBL. Amy Weber from the Raw Diva Search walks in, and introduces herself as the image consultant of JBL. Booker and Eddie start arguing about their blown opportunities against JBL. Amy reminds them that The Undertaker is also in the Fatal Four Way at Armageddon. Eddie walks out saying he doesn't forget anything.

We come back from commercials to Michael Cole and Tazz talking about Cena's recent injury. They play a video package from last weeks show, showing that Jesus re-injured Cena's kidney with the use of Cena's own steel chain. Carlito and Jesus are standing by to take questions from Michael Cole. Carlito tells Cole that he is in too much pain to answer any questions. He tells Cole that Cena is to blame for everything. Carlito, proud of Jesus, gives him Cena's steel chain. Jesus then got his chance to talk. Failing at doing Eddie Guerrero's Spanish/English promo, Jesus says that he just received his wrestling license. Bah! I almost got mine, but the quarter got stuck in the little turning thing.

RVD and Rey Jr. are backstage. Rey comes up and speaks a bunch of Spanish while talking about Kenzo Suzuki, to which RVD responds, "Good idea, get your son a motorcycle for Christmas." Ha, my sentiments exactly. According to these two, the night belongs to 6-1-9 and RVD.

Torrie is back out to announce the next contest, which is ...

Match Two- Rob Van Dam vs Kenzo Suzuki w/ Hiroko

Last week Kenzo broke his nose, after receiving the 420 from RVD and Rey Jr. The 420, what will they think of next. Kenzo starts the match out by chopping RVD black and blue. Is that all he can do? I haven't covered Smackdown in quite some time, and there has been no difference in his chop fest matches. RVD combats his all chop offense with and all kick offense. ROLLING THUNDER! RVD goes up for the Five Star, in comes Hiroko who gives Kenzo her sash. RVD tries to rid of her, but gets choked out with the sash. The ref counts to five and this one is over.

Winner via DQ- Rob Van Dam

After the match, Hiroko slaps Torrie which leads into a CATFIGHT! CATFIGHT! Kenzo pulls Torrie off Hiroko, brushes her off and wants Torrie to kiss him, RVD turns him around and knocks him down and out of the ring.

This time we return to a cartoon of a turkey dressed as Heidenreich. This was a pretty cool idea, good job guys.

Josh Matthews welcomes us to a Big Show Thanksgiving. Joy Giovanni, also from the Raw Diva Search, has prepared a ton of food for the Show. The Big Show talks about having the best announce team, but Lawler and J.R. work Mondays. True that! Big Show talks about being a hungry 12 year old, who stood 6'2" and weighed over 200 pounds. Tall glass of water, huh? This goes on, until Big Show invited Michael Cole, Tazz, Tony Chimel, the Audio guy and the Time Keeper into the ring, along with Josh Matthews for some food. Joy serves up food, until Luther Reigns comes out. He cuts a promo about growing up in jail amongst other things. He said it was like a war zone, he only got bread and water, yadda, yadda, yadda. Better promo than what he used to deliver. Luther said he thanks himself everyday for saving his own neck. Luther invites himself into the ring and tells Joy to serve him food. He then pies Joy in the face, uh oh! Big Show then bounces Luther's head off the food table, which leads into a FOOD FIGHT! Everyone gets into a food fight, Mark Jindrak comes out and stops Luther from going back into the ring. Big Show turns around and gets pied by Joy! Big Show laughs it off as we go into a commercial break.

Out comes Kurt Angle with two Police officers. He announces that its time for another Kurt Angle invitational. He calls out any local who wants to step up and make a name for themself by defeating Kurt Angle to win his gold medals. Out comes a friend of SLAM! Wrestling, "Completely" Cody Steele. For those of you who don't know, I had the pleasure of talking to this young man back in August at the Ballpark Brawl in Buffalo, NY. Good kid, glad to see him working some WWE.

Match Three-KURT ANGLE INVITATIONAL MATCH- Kurt Angle vs "Completely" Cody Steele

Cody gets to start the match off on top, as Kurt gets into an amateur position. The two grapple around as Cody gets to the ropes. Kurt tells Cody its his turn to go down. Cody obliges and Kurt kicks him in the face, picks him up and hits him with stiff punches and an Angle Slam. Kurt locks the Angle Lock on Cody and he taps. This really sucked, Cody has too much talent to be destroyed like this on TV, he should have been given the chance to show some of his talent.

Winner via Submission- Kurt Angle

We come back to a cartoon of Michael Cole and Tazz as turkeys.

Al Snow then comes out with the Tough Enough kids, and gives them each 20 seconds to say what they are thankful for. I'll say it again, Puder's going to win.

We then go to a clip of Heidenreich suffering a mental breakdown last week on Smackdown.

Josh Matthews asks Paul Heyman about Heidenreich's condition. Heyman then says that Heidenreich is being treated by doctors and will be well one day. He asks everyone to pray for Heidenreich. I pray he doesn't come back. Good enough?

We are now sent to Miss Jackie stretching with Michelle, formerly of the Raw Diva Search. Are we starting to see a trend here? Anyway, Michelle's little stretching fetish would be better suited on Raw, if she teamed with Simon Dean, bring back Chris Candido and form The Body Donnas Version Two. Makes sense, doesn't it? Michelle tells Jackie that there is some truth to every rumor. Charlie Haas walks in and says he is glad that Jackie doesn't believe the rumors Dawn Marie is spreading. Jackie agrees, but somehow I don't think everything is alright. That's just me though.

Match Four- PILGRIMS VS INDIANS MATCH- Dawn Marie vs Miss Jackie

The women hit each other all over the place and then hit the referee, causing a quick disqualification.

RESULT- Double DQ

Charlie Haas comes out to break things up.

WWE then airs a promo video saying they are going back overseas to perform for the troops again. Glad to hear that, they deserve it.

Match Five- Booker T and Eddie Guerrero vs JBL and Orlando Jordan

JBL and Eddie take turns throwing JBL's towel at each other. Eddie gets JBL rattled early. Booker T comes in, and after a little offense, is quickly beat on by the champ. Orlando Jordan comes in, and Booker lays into him with some stiff chops, to which I say, WOOOOOOOO! Jordan comes back and locks a rear chokehold on Booker T. Jordan regains control and tags JBL in. JBL goes to town on Booker T, and makes a quick tag out. Jordan again applies a chin lock on Booker. The double tag is made and Guerrero is on fire. Three Amigos to JBL. All four men are in the ring now, Booker does a ten punch count on Jordan, while Guerrero does one on JBL. JBL and Jordan come back, but Guerrero kicks JBL, and Booker lands a Scissor Kick. Booker and Jordan are brawling on the outside, when a fan in a Rey Jr. mask punches Booker in the face, the mask is taken off and its Danny Basham. Guerrero goes to the top for the Frog Splash on JBL, but another fan, who we would find out is Doug Basham, hits Guerrero, causing him to be pinned by the champ.

Winners via Pinfall- JBL and Orlando Jordan

The lights go out, DONG, the lights come back on and The Undertaker is in the ring. He takes out Jordan, and Tombstones JBL. The Undertaker takes the championship belt as Smackdown comes to an end.

All in all it was a festive Smackdown. Some interesting things, but nothing too special. The matches were short and not too good. Hopefully Armageddon will be better. Nice to see all of JBL's feuds combined into one match, that should be a somewhat interesting contest. With that being said, Happy Thanksgiving and let's send you to Nick Tywalk as he brings you, ba, ba, ba bum, Monday Night Raw!
