WWE releases Gunn, Albert & Test
By JASON CLEVETT -- SLAM! Wrestling

WWE posted notice on wwe.com today that they have released Billy Gunn, Albert and Test from their contracts.

None of the men have been used recently. Although Albert's release isn't a big surprise, Gunn's could be considered one when looking at how many pushes he has received over the past 12 years.

Gunn started off as one half of The Smoking Gunns with 'brother' Bart (Mike Barton). After a brief stint as Honky Tonk Man protégé 'Rockabilly' he had his most success teaming with 'Road Dog' Jesse James (now in TNA) as The New Age Outlaws, members of the popular Degeneration X faction. When the team split he became 'Mr. Ass' and had a brief singles run. His team with Chuck Palumbo played up a gay relationship that received international headlines when a marriage was set up on Smackdown that ended up being a ruse, enraging gay groups. His most recent use was in a tag team with Bob Holly. In addition to being a multiple time tag champion, he has also held the Intercontinental and Hardcore titles.

Albert has also had a number of character transformations. Initially teamed with Droz and given the name 'Prince Albert' because of his multiple piercings, he was then part of 'T&A' with Test and manager Trish Stratus, Albert has also been a member of X-Factor, a 'Hip Hop Hippo' with Scottie Too Hottie and most recently simply as A-Train.

Test was always considered a can't miss prospect, and he had the look and the size but just didn't have the charisma. Of course, his career-making moment where he was humiliated at the altar by HHH and Stephanie didn't lead to a logical HHH-Test feud due to backstage politics. He has been on the disabled list after having spinal surgery.
