Smackdown: Guerrero feels the Reigns
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

A PPV match on Smackdown!? Yes, tonight Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero will lock it up and get it on in what is expected to be another mat classic. Smackdown! has a lot going for itself as of late: an entertaining champ, a decent Best of Five Series and PPV quality matches what's not to love.....or at least like.

When I was asked to cover the gig, hold down the fort, I was a little worried about what Smackdown! would be putting out, but after reading the line-up I was happy to see some of the matches they announced. I am loose, I am ready, let's get on to Smackdown!

We kick things off with a preview for tonights Eddie vs Kurt matchup. Yipeee! I owe ya one Dale.

Booker T opens the show in the ring. The Book has got something to say. He goes off on a tangent about John Cena. We see slips of him beating Cena on Smackdown last week and him beating Cena in Australia. You may be asking, Australia? Australia, meaning match three was at a non-televised house show, which makes sense considering this series has been hyped up the whazooo. Booker only has one more match to win before taking this Best of Five Series. Cue Mysterios music. Rey Jr comes down to the ring and brings his gift of gab with him. Rey asks T if he is in the ring for a fight. The Book says no. Rey then says that if he doesn't want a fight, he better leave the ring, because he wants a piece of Spike, yadda yadda yadda. Rey then goes on to say that if the little Dudley didn't want to come out then Booker would be just fine. For whatever reason, Chop Master Kenzo Suzuki comes out. A few things on Kenzo before I continue--I have been told and have come to believe that Kenzo might just be a good wrestler, but WWE is forcing him to play a role which doesn't show off his skills. I also would like to say, look back at Kenzo Suzuki and listen closely, he subliminaly mentions Rey Mysterio in them. Now that I'm done with that, Kenzo claims that Rey is a liar because he says he is from 619, but he wasn't born in America. Now if that is the damndest reason for hating someone. Kenzo then tells us that he hates liars and loves America ... don't ask me. He smiles his evil smile and is then attacked from behind by RVD. LOOK WHAT YOU STARTED BOOKER! Rene Dupree comes out to save Kenzo and the fight is headed towards the ring where Rey helps RVD out. Booker T rolls out of harms way. Sure act innocent Booker, if you didn't come out to stroke your ego none of this would have happened. This is starting to remind me of TNA. Out comes Teddy Long who stops this nonsense. He announces ther will be a Six Man Tag Match, Kenzo, Rene and Booker T vs Rey Jr, RVD and their partner, John Cena. WORD LIFE I say to that WORD LIFE. The hatemail is on its way, I can tell.

Match One- SIX MAN TAG - Rene Dupree, Kenzo Suzuki and Booker T vs Rey Mysterio Jr, Rob Van Dam and John Cena

The match starts at a quick pace which is what I expected given the competitors in this contest. Rob Van Dam will take a beating as usual by the heels with my main man Dupree giving us a French Tickler, shame shame, WWE Management said that's a no no. Rob Van Dam will continue taking a beating until tagging in the fresh Rey Mysterio Jr. Rey will hit his signature high spots and take the heels out of commision. Dupree is in a world of trouble when he is in postion for the 6-1-9, Booker T makes the save with a kick to the head of poor Rey Jr. All six men get it on at one time, all this hoopla, I've got a million words tonight, leads to Rene Dupree on the receiving end of a Five Star Frog Splash, RVD then leaps onto Kenzo, Rey has Dupree once again in postion 6-1-9 for the One-Two-Three. WHY DO YOU BURY RENE DUPREE?

Winners Via Pinfall- John Cena, Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio Jr.

We then go backstage where Paul Heyman is locking a door. Teddy Long comes up and tells Heyman that Heidenreich is being fined for his actions against Josh Matthews last week. The fine is $5,000. Heyman tells long that Heidenreich doesn't carry that kind of scratch. Teddy don't mind because he says that Heyman will pay the fine for him, CASH ONLY, you see Heyman has a bad rep. Heyman tries to play the whole unpredictable gag to which Teddy syas that if that's the case, more fines will be on the way. Why doesn't Teddy Long fine John Heidenreich for not having any real in-ring ability? I guess the fine would be too astronomical.

We then go to footage of Chavo Guerrero getting injured last week. That was a nasty hit he took, get well soon Chavito.

Next we got backstage where Paul London and Billy Kidman (The Baby AJ's according to SLAM!'s Jason Clevett, believe me I said the same thing), are getting ready for their match. Knoble heckles Torrie's husband with the fact that he injured Chavo Guerrero. Kidman says that Chavo was just a victim of the Shooting Star Press, the most dangerous move in the business, go ask Brock. Knoble says that Kidman can talk all he wants, Chavo's career could be over because of him. Powerful words from a powerful man.

The Big Show returns in three weeks. Need I say more?

Match Two- NON TITLE MATCH - The Baby AJ's (Paul London and Billy Kidman) vs The F.B.I.

Detective Lou and Sgt Ken, nah I'am just kidding, Nunzio and Stamboli hit the ring ready for action. They are set to take on another one of my favorite tag teams, Kidman and London. These teams never seem to put in a bad match, I commend you fellas. Kidman and Paul hit all their normal spots. An excellent contest comes to an end when Kidman goes to the top and is set to do the shooting star press, he thought better of it, got down and tagged in London, who rather than wrestle asks Kidman what he was doing, London gets rolled up by Nunzio and is pinned.

Winners Via Pinfall- The F.B.I.

POST MATCH- London continues to ask what happened with Kidman. From the crowd Heidenreich comes into the ring and gives London his backbreaker. He then goes over to the announce table to beat up Michael Cole, who was able to get away. Heyman comes out and gets the big guy to go to the back. Damn, I was hoping he would beat the piss out of Michael Cole.

We then go to a clip of Guerrero and Angle from Wrestlemania XX. I am pumped for the main event.

We then come back to The Big Show, Ivory and Linda McMahon at the Republican National Convention. I guess before you return to the ring you must cut a promo about voting with Linda and Ivory. I've said it before, VOTE YOUNG AMERICA!

Next we go to Torrie Wilson in Theodore's office. She is upset at the fact that The Big Show is returning to Smackdown. Teddy assures her that The Big Show is only coming back, if he takes anger managment classes, I wonder if he'll run into Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson. If you remember anything in life, remember this, "Things can't go wrong with Theodore R. Long."

It's not time to check out my brother from another mother, Nick's Raw Report. This week showcases the the best #@$% Diva Search Segment to date.

We are back with JBL and Orlando Jordan arriving in the arena via limo. JBL goes and takes a seat with Michael Cole and Tazz to do some commentary for...

Match Three- Orlando Jordan vs Charlie Haas w/Miss Jackie

Orlando is improving and I can't seem to bash him anymore. I believe he has taken control of his career and is making some big improvements. Charlie Haas can't seem to get lucky with his in-ring career and runs into an exposed turnbuckle, which was exposed courtesy of Orlando Jordan, and is knocked cold turkey and pinned for the big victory.

Winner Via Pinfall- Orlando Jordan

POST MATCH- Jordan forces Miss Jackie back into the turnbuckles while JBL comes in a delivers a "Clothesline From Hell" on the poor Charlie Haas. Did ya hear which wrestler won the race? Charlie Haas, ahh I need sleep.

Next we go to a clip of Kurt Angle vs Eddie Guerrero from Summerslam.

We come back and go right to...

Match Four- The Dudley Boyz w/Spike Dudley vs Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly

Where was Spike earlier on in the evening? Guess he was playing hard to get. He did come out however to help The Dudleys win their match when D-Von and Billy were fighting on the outside, to which the ref had to intervene, Spike comes in hits Hardcore with the Cruiser Title and Bubba gets the pinfall.

Winner Via Pinfall- The Dudley Boyz

We are then shown Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero headed to the ring.

Hey Yo.... Carlito Cool Promo airs. Carlito steals a man's cell phone, makes a call, when the guy approaches him Carlito asks "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" Carlito also goes on to say that the guy isn't as Cool as him. Two things 1) I already like this guy. 2) If you could really get away with stealing a phone just by being cooler than someone, I'd have a lot of phones.

Match Five- TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS MATCH - Kurt Angle vs Eddie Guerrero

Lock up, wrist lock and a hair pull. Angle is then sent down by Guerrero via the strap on Kurt's singlet. After Guerrero did that for a second time, the two lock up, Eddie hits Angle with a sunset flip, but to no avail as Angle gets out of dodge and out of the ring. Angle gets back into the ring, Eddie hooks him for a belly to back suplex, only to be low blowed by Kurt Angle. In a real shocker, the low blow went undetected. Guerrero came back though and hit Angle with a low blow, this time the ref caught it, being it was done right in front of him, and Guerrero is DQ'ed.

Winner of the First Fall Via DQ-Kurt Angle

Kurt is able to get back and go toe to toe with Guerrero. Guerrero is on the receiving end of some German Suplexes. The Angle Slam was attempted, but Guerrero reversed it into a DDT for the one-two-three.

Winner of the Second Fall Via Pinfall- Eddie Guerrero

Kurt comes back again and hits two German Suplexes and an Angle Slam for the TWOOOOO. Eddie comes back and is on fire, hitting the Three Amigos. Luther Reigns comes down, Eddie takes out Luther Reigns. Luther has been awfully slow, probably 'cause he carries so much dead weight, OVW OVW OVW. Please keep Luther in this role and as far away from a wrestling match as possible. Eddie goes back up for the Frog Splash, but misses and is put in the Angle Lock. A roll through causes Angle to collide with referee Brian Hebner. Eddie goes to outside, grabs a chair and hits Luther with it, he then hits Angle in the back with it. Old School Eddie comes out as he drops the chair and falls to the ground, making believe he had been hit by the chair. Hebner came to and saw Angle with the chair in his hands, Angle explained himself to the Ref, while a happy Eddie Guerrero, quickly became unhappy as he was hit with a steel chair to the leg thanks to Luther Reigns. Angle then runs over to a hurt Eddie Guerrero and locks an ankle lock on him forcing Eddie to tap out.

Winner of the Third Fall Via Submission- Kurt Angle

WINNER OF THE MATCH- TWO FALLS TO ONE - KURT ANGLE

POST MATCH- Luther comes in and beats on Eddie Guerrero. He then gives Eddie his finishing neckbreaker.

The show then comes to an end with Luther standing over a beaten Eddie Guerrero. Kurt looks on at what his protege has done.

Well, now isn't this a hoot? Luther Reigns is getting a big push. Smackdown had a good main event this week. Not a bad show compared to what has recently been put out. It had matches which was a change from Raw as of late. We have to wait till October though for a WWE Smackdown PPV, that PPV, WWE No Mercy, live from the Continental Airlines Arena. Smackdown's future appears brighter--let's see if they can maintain themselves.
