WWE, Sable part ways
By JASON CLEVETT -- SLAM! Wrestling

Rena "Sable" Mero, who along with Sunny was one of the first true "Divas" has left World Wrestling Entertainment, according to a brief statement on wwe.com.

Mero, who is rumored to be engaged to former WWE star and current football hopeful Brock Lesnar has a long storied history with the WWE. She was initially brought in as a valet for Triple-H at Wrestlemania 12, but quickly split with him and was paired with then-husband "Wildman" Marc Mero (aka Johnny B. Badd in WCW.) The then defunct Women's Championship was brought back for her, and during her first stint she feuded with Luna Vachon, Jaqueline, Tori (Not Wilson) and Mero himself.

After shooting to superstardom, including TV appearances and posing in Playboy, Sable shocked the wrestling world by filing a 100-million dollar lawsuit against the WWE. The issues involved her being asked to allegedly take part in a racey storyline. The suit was settled out of court in August of 1999.

After a second Playboy spread under her real name, Mero appeared in several low-budget movies and TV shows. Her second run in the company has seen her work a quasi-lesbian storyline and Playboy spread with Torrie Wilson, a storyline that implied she was involved with Vince McMahon, and a series of special appearances, including lingerie and bikini contests. Her only high profile match was at Wrestlemania XX, teaming with Wilson to defeat Stacy Kiebler and Miss Jackie in an evening gown match.

Mero has been off WWE television as of late but was due to return. In a recent interview with the Fort Wayne Gazette, Mero criticized the WWE and the way it treats its female performers. Roddy Piper was released last year after making comments on a documentary about drug use in wrestling.
