Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, has signed to star in "Gridiron Gang," Variety reports.
Based on a true story, the film revolves around a group of teenagers at a youth probation centre in Los Angeles who gain confidence and self-respect when their counselor (Johnson) puts them on a football team.
Johnson recently completed work on "Be Cool," the "Get Shorty" sequel and is about to begin shooting "Instant Karma," a comedy about a safecracker who dies and is reincarnated as a series of animals.
The actor will also play Alec Sects in the highly anticipated bigscreen version of the hit videogame "Spy Hunter," which is being directed by John Woo ("Face/Off," "Mission: Impossible II") later this year.
