One on one with Gail Kim
By TODD SAELHOF -- Calgary Sun

SO HOW THE DEVIL ARE YA? I'm great. Just anxious to get back to wrestling because I just recently had an injury.

IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT AND YOU'RE NOT IN THE WWE RING. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

I'm usually doing just more chilling-out things with my friends, like going to the movies or just relaxing. I'm done with my partying days.

WHAT KIND OF MOVIE?

I like romance-comedies, so we'll just say something like Mickey Blue Eyes.

PICK A FEW WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF.

Spontaneous ... ummm ... I can't even think of anything else. Oh, ambitious, motivating, athletic and easygoing.

SO IN LIGHT OF ALL THAT, WHAT'S A NICE CANADIAN GIRL LIKE YOU DOING IN A BUSINESS LIKE WRESTLING?

Well, I didn't know what the business was like before. No, honestly, I love the business. I've always been athletic, so this was the only sport which I loved that I could pursue at an adult age.

WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AT SCHOOL?

Not to sound conceited or anything but popular. Popular, fun and athletic.

WHAT'S YOUR MOST TREASURED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

My credit card. I love shopping. I'm a shop-aholic.

WELL THEN, WHAT'S THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING YOU'VE EVER BOUGHT?

I don't think anything I've ever bought is ridiculous. I'm pretty impulsive, though. So when I see something I like, I buy it.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU PUNCHED AND WHY?

I would have to say Victoria and that was the last time I was in the ring. And because I wanted to.

WHAT'S YOUR MOST UNPLEASANT CHARACTERISTIC?

I guess I can be moody sometimes, depending on how tired I am. You know, life on the road.

WHAT REPAIRS CAN YOU PERFORM ON YOUR AUTOMOBILE?

Nothing but I do have an Auto Repair for Dummies book. I tried to read it and learn. I read the first three pages and then I gave up.

WHAT'S YOUR CULINARY SPECIALTY?

I make really good veal and I make a great tuna-fish sandwich -- low-fat tuna fish.

WHAT'S THE ONE THING THAT'S ALWAYS IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR? YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO TELL ME TUNA.

No, eggs. I love eggs. I eat eggs every day.

WHAT TV SERIES DO YOU WANT ON DVD?

I have the most recent season of CSI already. I want the other seasons.

WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO HOLIDAY?

Puerto Rico -- that's my next spot. It's one of the hot spots I've never been to.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE UNHEALTHY FOOD?

Hamburgers and french fries. I'm not really a dessert girl.

WHAT'S THE BEST CONCERT YOU'VE SEEN?

Although I'm not a big fan of hers -- I got tickets from a friend -- it was Alanis Morrissette. Probably the best live concert I've ever seen.

IF YOU WEREN'T A WRESTLER, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

I think I'd be a hamburger connoisseur. I've always said that I'd write for some magazine or travel on a TV show and try out different hamburger joints and search out the best burger.

ARE WE GOING TO SEE YOUR MASKED, CATSUITED CHARACTER LA FELINA CRAWL BACK INTO THE RING?

Oh, no. I don't miss that mask at all. I was paying my dues as part of my wrestling days. I never came up with that idea.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE TRACY BROOKS (WHO RIPPED OFF LA FELINA'S MASK) IN ONE WORD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

She was an enemy but I can only say good things about her. She was so welcoming to me and she taught me a lot when I first started out in the business. I'm sorry (giggles). I can't say anything bad about her.

WHAT WAS THE BEST YEAR OF YOUR LIFE?

I guess the last year to this point because I won the women's belt when I started with the company. But hopefully I'll have an even better year coming up.

WHAT TRAIT DO YOU MOST ADMIRE IN PEOPLE?

Honesty.

YOU HAVE A FEW HOURS TO KILL -- BOOK OR VIDEO GAME?

I'll have to say book -- I'm boring. I usually like the how-to books and learning books. Nothing like fiction or nothing that tells a story.

WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST FEAR?

Dying.

WHAT MOVIE MADE YOU TEARY-EYED?

I'm not really a crier. But the last time was a long time ago. It was Ghost -- pretty cheesy.

EVER ORDERED WRESTLING ON PAY-PER-VIEW?

Yes, I have. Before I was with the company.

STRANGEST PIECE OF FAN MAIL?

I'd have to say in the form of e-mail. There's this one guy -- and I know the other female wrestlers have gotten e-mails from this same guy -- and he always asks, 'Are your feet ticklish?'

SO ARE THEY?

Yes, they are (laughs). But I won't e-mail him back to answer that.

ANY SUPERSTITIONS?

I'd have to say I'm pretty superstitious. Like if I spill salt, I'll throw the salt shaker over my left shoulder. So it's the normal, run-of-the-mill superstitions.

COULD YOU BE CONVINCED TO KARAOKE AND, IF SO, WHAT'S YOUR SONG?

I guess if I was really drunk, because I'm really kinda shy in front of crowds -- I know that sounds weird because I'm a wrestler -- I could. It would probably be a song from Madonna's first album. I know all the words from those songs.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE TOY FROM TOYS 'R' US WHEN YOU VISIT TODAY, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

When I was a kid growing up, we didn't have all those cars that drive themselves -- just the normal Barbie dolls -- so I'd have to say something more modern like a car that I could drive.

NO MASK, RIGHT?

No mask. I want to forget about those days.
