Contest ties WWE to Ontario tourism

Last summer was a tough one for Ontario tourism, with a SARS scare and West Nile Virus scaring away visitors. But Attractions Ontario and WWE Canada have formed a tag team to prop the province back up with a cool contest.

Attractions Ontario, a non-profit association representing Ontario's attractions, is currently holding an on-line contest with the WWE leading up to SummerSlam in Toronto.

"We are very happy to be able to partner with the WWE in this venture," said Troy Young, Executive Director, Attractions Ontario. "Pay-per-views like SummerSlam and Wrestlemania X8 (in 2002) are great contributors to the local tourism industry. Given the difficult year we have just had, having the WWE choose Toronto to be the host of this year's SummerSlam is a great boost for us."

There are three prize packages:

  • Prize 1: WWE Smackdown! in Hamilton! (2 packages to be awarded) This package includes:
    • 4 tickets to see the televised WWE Smackdown! show in Hamilton on August 17
    • 4 Play-All-Day Adult Passes to the WWE Summerslam Day at Ontario Place on August 14
    • passes to Playdium in Mississauga
  • Prize 2: WWE Smackdown! presents "Red, White and Bruised" at Owen Sound's Bayshore Community Centre. Your favourite WWE Smackdown! Superstars are in action on August 16. You get:
    • 4 tickets to the WWE Smackdown! Show
    • Accommodations in Owen Sound
    • More items to be included in prize package. Check back for details
  • Prize 3: 4 tickets to WWE Smackdown! presents "Red, White and Bruised" at Owen Sound's Bayshore Community Centre on August 16
The contest closing date is midnight, August 5, 2004. Enter at www.attractionsontario.ca. You'll need to know a little about Ontario to pull it off.

"The WWE has had a solid presence in Ontario for many years, and this current tour is one of the best. The Owen Sound show is the first time in 10 years that the WWE has been in town and the Hamilton Smackdown! taping is the first ever at Copps Coliseum," said Young. "We are happy to be able to give away tickets to these two events, along with tickets to local attractions. Attractions Ontario and World Wrestling Entertainment have this in common: our goal is to deliver quality entertainment experiences to our visitors. To be able to be part of the WWE experience has been a real treat for Attractions Ontario."
