TNA inks deal to air old PPVs in Canada
Well, it's not the clearance for TNA Impact! that Canadian fans may have been hoping for, but it's something.
On Friday, TNA Entertainment, LLC announced that it had signed a one-year deal with ESPN Classic Canada to air old episodes of its pay-per-views.
ESPN Classic Canada will air the entire TNA Wrestling collection, chronologically, every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET (encores at 12 midnight ET, and Thursdays at 6 a.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET). It all begins August 4th with the first-ever TNA PPV from June 2002.
"TNA Wrestling's popularity continues to grow around the world, especially in Canada," said Dixie Carter, President, TNA Entertainment in a press release. "We're thrilled to have ESPN Classic Canada as a partner."
"Our new deal with TNA Entertainment offers wrestling fans a rare chance to revisit the birth of one of the sport's most exciting and intense divisions," said Phil Piazza, Director, ESPN Classic Canada. "It's a perfect fit for our network's Wednesday night wrestling lineup."
Of course, the intriguing part of this deal is that ESPN Classic Canada is partially owned by TSN, which is the premier broadcast partner of the WWE in Canada.
The TNA pay-per-views on Wednesdays have good clearance on Viewer's Choice, Bell ExpressVu and Shaw PPV, but Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's Impact! show, which airs on Fridays at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports Net in the United States, is not available in Canada.
