Quebec promotions align for Wrestlefest
By YVES LEROUX - SLAM! Wrestling
MONTREAL - With so many wrestling federations in Québec, and many inter-federation feuds going on, it is refreshing to see the Canadian Professional Wrestling federation putting aside all the squabbles to invite several wrestling federations from throughout Québec to participate in the first ever Wrestlefest.
The CPW, based out of Gatineau/Hull and with Gino Brito at the head of the federation, extended their invitation for Saturday August 14th, 2004 at the CPW arena in Hull and it will consist of two shows, the first at 3 pm and the second later at 8 pm. The doors will open an hour before each show.
The concept, which is both innovative and simple, involves each federation sending their respective champions against the same federations' top contender to defend their titles. There will be some other matches in between each championship match involving regular CPW wrestlers.
A fanfest meet and greet will take place after the afternoon show in which every federation will have a concession stand to promote their own products, have their own wrestlers sign autographs and have their pictures taken with the fans. A barbeque is in the works after the afternoon show in the CPW arena parking lot.
CPW's chief booker, Joel Racine is very happy with the almost unanimously positive responses from practically all the invitations sent out during a conversation with SLAM! Wrestling: "We sent out eight invitations and after the first couple weeks, we already had six confirmations with a seventh which needed approval from the board of director of that particular federation".
He is also hoping that it will be the start of something big. "We hope we will be able to organize a Wrestlefest every year as a yearly event, and we are not opposed to the idea of a different federation hosting the event every year."
The six federations who have already accepted the invitation include:
The admission will be $12.00 for one show or $20.00 for the entire day. This will be an unique event where fans will be a priority, where all will be able to talk to their favorite local wrestlers. A website has been set up for updates at cpwinternational.net/wrestlefest/.
