AJ defends X title in dream match up
By JAYA ROOPANSINGH -- SLAM! Wrestling

Readers, you're going to have to forgive me if I seem a little lost in the NWA mix. Unfortunately I had to take some time away from wrestling but now I'm back! After the pathetic attempt at a new soap opera on the other show, I was very happy to see NWA is still the same great WRESTLING organization it was when I was watching.

Things start off in a grudge match with Team Canada's Petey Williams and Bobby Roode taking on Sonjay Dutt and the Great Sabu!

Sabu & Dutt VS. Petey Williams & Bobby Roode w/ Scott D'Amore

Sabu and Petey start things off. They shoot to the side where Georgie Watts, the wife of Eric Watts is sitting awaiting the match between Eric and Abyss with Goldilocks. Sabu and Petey are on the mat, matching each other move for move. Petey gets frustrated and tags in Roode. Sabu makes the tag to Dutt. They lock up and Roode shows he has the upper hand in strength by pushing Dutt down. Dutt does a back flip and lands on his feet giving Roode a drop kick to his head. Dutt now on the top ropes and gets a dive on Roode who can't keep up with Dutt flying around the ring. Roode gets sent to the outside. The crowd gives me a flashback to Wrestlemania 9 when they start chanting USA...? Hello, it's Team Canada VS. two guys billed from Bombay, India! Where's Bobby Heenan when you need him?

Williams gets in the ring and gets a headlock take down. Sabu starts going crazy on the outside. Well, I guess for Sabu, he was just acting normal. Roode gets in for a double team on Dutt while Sabu starts tossing chairs around on the floor. Roode gets Dutt in an arm bar submission. While the ref is distracted by Sabu's craziness on the outside, Dutt is getting choked on the ropes. Roode breaks the hold and directs the ref back to Sabu so D'Amore can get a cheap shot. Williams gets back in, swings Dutt into the corner, he falls down and a two count. Williams and Dutt try for a series of moves but it just looks like they're doing the dose doh with one counter after another. Dutt finally gets an upper hand and drives Williams to the matt then makes a tag to Sabu.

While Sabu is getting in Roode also gets the tag. Sabu calls for the chair to be sent in. He goes of the ropes, springboards off the chair and nails Roode. Williams breaks the pin and Dutt gets in and goes straight for Roode. He goes to the top for a cross body, Roode catches him for sitting power bomb, Dutt reverses into hurricanrana. Dutt then does a cross body to Roode sending him outside. D'Amore throws in the hockey stick. Sabu grabs the chair and it's the chair VS the hockey stick. Steel wins and Sabu gets the three count. While standing over Williams he mocks Raven. D'Amore then gets in and starts screaming at Williams and Roode. The rest of Team Canada comes in to break things up.

Winners: Sabu and Sonjay Dutt

Shane Douglas is interviewing AJ Styles?!!!?!!? Someone please fill me in on this! Mike Tenay sends it to their broadcast colleague, Shane Douglas who is interviewing AJ Styles. This was just shocking to me. There was no bad talking, no insinuations, just a straight interview where AJ says he'll take on anyone who wants him, anytime or anywhere. He says since Kid Kash is suspended from action, Russo can pick another opponent and he'll fight him.

They go to the ring where Russo and the referee from last week's controversial title match are standing. Russo has to make a decision on who's the new champion. They show testimony from Dusty Rhodes about the decision and Russo decides to hear both cases one more time. He invites Jeff Jarrett and Truth down. First Three Live Krew comes out and when Truth is about to talk, Jarrett's music hits and cuts him off. He comes down dressed up like Count Dracula. Why is he being escorted by three topless men in French berets?

He shows clips of both Russo and the referee clearly saying if the guitar was used that person would be disqualified then shows Truth being the one that uses the guitar. Truth then raps on about self defence. He shows clips of Jeff nailing everyone with the guitar and says it was either hit or be hit. As old as that Jeff Jarrett and guitar story line is (dating back to 1995) I gotta love that shot of him hiding one underneath the stairs. That's just classic. Jeff laughs at all the footage of him smashing people. They both make a play on Russo's new found religious beliefs telling him to DO WHAT'S RIGHT. Truth gets the crowd to chant the phrase and they zoom in on Russo and his crucifix. Gee, since all these wrestlers are talking about being born again Christians, how about we throw it into a storyline? Who didn't see this coming? Despite this lack of judgement, throwing religion in with wrestling stories, they did do what was right. Russo said that if the guitar was used that person would lose, so Double J is still NWA World Champion. He then says that there would be a rematch with Jeff defending against not only Truth but K- Dawg and Jesse too. Then he said that Jeff's three henchmen would also be in the mix. A relieved Jarrett said he would take four on three odds any day. Russo said it would be more like four on four. That it would be a gauntlet match and the eighth person is the first-ever NWA champion under TNA's booking, Ken Shamrock.

They show what's been happening between Monty Brown and D' Lo Brown. I love that someone finally addressed D'Lo's bobbing of the head. It's gotta stop!

D'Lo Brown VS The Alpha Male Monty Brown in a Grudge Match

Monty just pummels D'Lo on the matt with punches to the head. DLo finally gets a drop kick that sends Monty to the outside. Monty grabs a chair, D'Lo doesn't see it and goes for the suicide dive, Monty swings, and hits D'Lo out on the floor. They continue to swing at each other with punches and kicks. Monty uses the steel stairs to decimate D'Lo slowly. They go into the crowd and fight until the referee rings the bell. Not much of a match. From what I've seen of Monty, he's just another big, strong, cut up athlete who can't do much more then the basics. It was like watching today's Kevin Nash.

Winner: No contest

Scott Hudson tries to interview Glen Gilberti but he won't come out in his leprechaun suit. Meanwhile Johnny Swinger is flexing his pecks that are being shielded by coconuts, while he's dressed in a hulla girl outfit. They show how the New York Connection got a double or nothing humiliation match and then they go out to the ring.

Gilberti & Swinger VS Sonny Siaki & Pat Kenney

Irish Pat starts things off with Gilberti. Gilberti gets knocked down and then Pat pulls the leprechaun hat over Gilberti's eyes and punches him. He then lifts the hat only to poke out Gilberti's eyes. Siaki then comes in and they double team Gilberti and get a two count. Swinger comes in and Siaki whips him in for an elbow but he gets the coconuts and ends up hurting himself. Swinger then flexes again for the crowd and seems to be liking his costume more than we thought he would. Siaki grabs Swinger's leis and chokes him out with it. Siaki picks Swinger up for a back suplex and he accidentally knocks out Gilberti with his foot. Siaki runs off the ropes to hit Swinger but Gilberti uses his shoe to hit him. Swinger now lays it into Siaki and Gilberti gets back in.

They exchange some blows but Gilberti's hat keeps falling over his eyes. Swinger comes back in and Siaki breaks the string on the coconuts. Swinger gets distracted trying to keep the coconuts up and Siaki gets a drop kick. Kenney is now in and all four men go at it. The NYC's friend who set everything up (sorry I forgot his name) comes running down and hits Kenny for NYC getting the roll up and the three count. Then another referee comes down and tells the first ref what happened. The first ref demands the match go on... oh no, my TV freezes out for a second. The ref jumps the NYC member and Kenney gets a roll up on Gilberti with the three count. The NYC has to wear those costumes for another 30 days. Trinity and Big Vito come out disgusted, yelling at Gilberti and Swinger for not getting the job done.

Winners: Irish Pat Kenney and Sonny Siaki

Erik Watts Vs Abyss w/ Goldilocks

If Erik wins he gets the briefcase. If Abyss wins, Goldilocks owns Erik's contract.

Erik can't wait for the match to begin so he grabs Abyss before they get into the ring. While Erik has Abyss cornered on the outside, Goldilocks comes from behind and nails Eric for a distraction. Abyss gets one blow and sends Erik flying. In the ring, Abyss is trying to set the chair up in the corner. Erik keeps trying to get him down with one blow after another but nothing is working. Abyss goes on top for a leg drop but misses. Erik grabs Abyss and throws him into the chair in the corner. Abyss lands outside right next to Georgie Watts. Erik whips him around the outside and again my TV freezes. I hear that Erik gets dropped on the steel rail. It's back and inside Abyss has the chair, Watts ducks the first swing and bicycle kicks the second into Abyss' face. Erik runs back and forth off the ropes gaining enough momentum to get Abyss of his feet.

Watts goes for the pin on Abyss but Goldilocks gets up on the ring apron and again my TV freezes. Comes back and the ref is taking a chair away from Watts, which lets Goldilocks pass the briefcase to Abyss. While the ref is dumping the chair, Abyss nails Erik with the money. Goldilocks goes over to Georgie and yells at her. Erik gets back up and fends off Abyss. He sees Goldilocks and goes over to her, pulls her by her hair up onto the apron. Abyss is coming from behind and Watts sees him, ducks, and Abyss nails Goldilocks, who falls to the chair. Watts hits Abyss down and goes off the ropes, Goldi grabs his feet. Watts turns around and grabs Goldi pulling her into the ring. He goes for the chokeslam but she claws his eyes. Abyss then gets him from behind for the slam and a three count. Goldi adds in some kicks screaming, I own you and Abyss grabs the chain to choke Watts. Georgie can't take it and comes up to the ring apron where she's met by Goldi. She throws her Pepsi on Goldi and drives her down to the mat. The black shirt security tears the two apart and Georgie jumps on Abyss' back pulling him off of her husband. Abyss and Goldi go to the back while she helps her husband up.

What kind of woman waits till after her man has lost to come in do something?

Winner: Abyss

They show a great highlight reel of the way NWA's Tag Division is shaping up. They then talk to America's Most Wanted about the Naturals stealing their gear and their upcoming match.

AMW's Jason Storm & Chris Harris VS. Naturals' Andy Douglas & Jay Stevens

The Naturals come out to the ring wearing AMW's gear. AMW run out and steam roll over the Naturals. They get Douglas out of the picture and dominate a double team on Stevens in the ring. Douglas finally makes his way into the match only to be picked up and tossed into his own partner. Storm steps out and Harris goes off the ropes and lays a hard lariat into Stevens. Douglas runs in and throws Harris over the ropes, he skins the cat and throws Douglas out over the ropes. He tries to skin the cat but Harris drop kicks him off the apron onto the floor. Harris goes for the count on Stevens but Douglas breaks it up.

Storm is getting double teamed and Harris is going nuts trying to get back in and break things up. Stevens gets a snap suplex on Storm and a two count. He gets Storm into an arm bar submission and then lets go to distract the ref while Douglas chokes Storm on the ropes. Douglas tags in and Storm is trying to tag out but Douglas has his foot. Storm nails him with the other foot and gets the tag to Harris. Douglas gets back to his feet and Harris knocks him back down, then brings in Stevens and beats on both the Naturals at the same time. They show a clip at the back with some X division wrestlers arguing with Russo about who gets to face AJ now that Kid Kash is suspended. Harris gets a bear hug on Douglas. Storm goes for the drop kick and two count. Everyone is surprised by the Naturals. Storm gets a swinging neck breaker and Stevens barely makes the save. Harris goes for the catatonic but it's reversed. Stevens goes for the sunset flip, that's reversed into a pin, which Stevens rolls out of into a pinning combination. Douglas holds Harris' hands down behind the referee for the three count.

Winners: The Naturals

They show an interview with Dusty Rhodes saying that he's disappointed in the decision that Russo made. He says that the NWA better not drop the ball with Jeff Hardy and get him signed because he has rock star status and there are only few in the business, like himself that have rock star status.

They show an interview done earlier in the day with Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels, Elix Skipper, Michael Shane, Frankie Kazarian and the Amazing Red. They're asked about their opinions of AJ re-entering the X division, regaining the title and the way he's been defending the belt. Sabin and Christopher praise AJ for winning all the belts and give him credit for the X division's success in the NWA. Michael Shane tells Daniels that he should speak for himself. Shane and Frankie are talking in the back mocking the guys. Daniels asks if they have a problem and Shane accuses them of kissing AJ's butt. Elix tells Daniels they don't need that and makes him leave. Frankie and Shane come to the front and tell Sabin to take a seat in the back with Red. They say that AJ doesn't belong in the X division and they went out there to petition his being kicked out. They told AJ to watch out because they were going to go after him.

Hudson asks Russo what's going on with Kash and Russo can't say anything except that Kash is suspended. He says since those guys all want a shot at AJ and AJ keeps saying he'll face anyone anywhere they're all gonna get what they want. Tonight AJ defends the X title against Michael Shane, Frankie Kazarian, Elix Skipper, Amazing Red and Chris Sabin in a six-man match up.

AJ Styles VS Michael Shane VS Frankie Kazarian VS Elix Skipper VS Amazing Red VS Chris Sabin for the X title

All six stare each other down, then Shane and Kazarian double team AJ. Prime Time and Sabin grab Kazarian and nail a double back breaker then tosses him out. Red and AJ treat Shane like a punching bag and then toss him out. The ring clears and things start with Red and Sabin. Sabin has a headlock applied, Red gets tossed to the ropes and then drop toe hold into AJ's corner. He tags himself in. AJ and Sabin exchange kicks and then AJ does a head scissors take over. Sabin lands in front of Shane who tags himself in. He pounds on AJ until AJ gets a drop kick in. He starts to work on Shane who begs off and tags in Kazarian. He's a little surprised and then comes over the ropes to meet AJ who knocks him down for a two count. AJ gets put into an armbar but manages to manoeuvre his way out and leads Kazarian around the ring till he tags in Prime Time. Elix slams Kazarian down for a two count that's broken up by AJ. He gets a back breaker on the knee and holds him there and then tells Kazarian to splash him which he does from the top ropes. Shane holds AJ up and he's out on his feet. Shane tells Red to come in and take some shots, but he declines. Shane then tells Sabin and he too declines. Finally Shane looks over to Prime Time and he takes exception to Shane's actions. Shane drops AJ and goes over to Elix who tags himself in by slapping Shane on the shoulder. Shane tries to block Elix who nails him with a the forearm.

Prime Time goes after AJ, they exchange blows until AJ tosses him to the ropes and then runs to the other side. Kazarian grabs AJ's legs and pulls him to the floor. Elix goes for spinning suicide dive on Kazarian, who pulls AJ into the line of fire. Kazarian picks up AJ and tosses him back into the ring where Sabin is waiting. Sabin and AJ lock up. Charges from across the ring and nails AJ with his boots while AJ is slumped down on the mat. Kazarian continues to choke AJ until Prime Time takes his foot off and pulls Kazarian's foot off. Kazarian goes for a pin and a two count thanks to Elix. Kazarian tags in Shane again. He hits AJ with some closed fists, AJ somehow gets the energy for a backwards spring board, but is caught, but he quickly turns and gets an inverted DDT on Shane who manages to get up and tag Kazarian. AJ finally tags out to Red.

Red goes nuts with the right fists and manages to get a sunset flip, Shane breaks the pin up. When he turns around, AJ comes off the top ropes for a spring board flying forearm. AJ gets up and turns around to get nailed by Kazarian. Sabin then comes back into the mix. He goes after Kazarian who ducks and does a running forearm that drives Sabin out, Elix in, knocks Kazarian out with a forearm of his own. AMW comes out dragging the Naturals with them, Monty Brown and D'Lo finally come back through the crowd, 3 Live Krew come out and then Jeff Jarrett makes his way out with the guitar clearing the ring. Ken Shamrock then comes out and stares down Jarrett from the top of the ramp. He runs down to the ring and the PPV cuts off.

It was a good show, but how many times are they going to end it with everyone just beating the hell out of each other in mayhem? Like I said in the beginning, at least they're actually beating the hell out of each other and not playing soap operas. The last match alone is worth watching the replay.
