TNA: TV deal announced, grudge matches set
By JAYA ROOPANSINGH -- SLAM! Wrestling

It's finally official. In the opening of the NWA-TNA, they announced a TV deal with Fox Sports. Every Friday starting on June 4, the NWA will air: Impact. It's a one hour show that starts at 3pm.

This week's show kicks off with a great grudge match that ended in a nice surprise.

Kid Kash VS. James Storm of America's Most Wanted

The match starts with Kash hitting Storm from behind during his entrance. Kash lays in a few chops, then sends Storm to the ropes, Storm ducks goes for the clothesline on Kash, Kid ducks, Storm catches Kash and throws him over the top. Storm chases Kash around the arena. Back in the ring, Kash whips Storm into the ropes, Storm gets a Lou Thez Press and pummels Kash. Kash again goes on the run. Storm in hot pursuit, Kash throws a chair at him, Storm catches it and throws it back knocking Kash out. They fight on the floor, Storm gets him back in the ring, Kash begs off, Storm gets a slam and a two count.

Storm goes for a suplex, Kash reverses it and gets a low blow. He sends Storm to the corner, and lays in some more chops. They exchange chops till Kash gets a poke to the eye. He applies a sleeper to Storm who fights out only to be put in the half boston crab. Kash releases and sets Storm up. Kash spring boards from across the ring but misses. Now Storm is in control and gets a two count. He's distracted by Dallas. Kash uses the time to recuperate, they both get a clothesline and knock each other down Storm goes to the top and gets a swinging neck breaker, goes for the pin. Dallas is on the apron distracting the referee with a lead pipe. Storm knocks Dallas who throws the pipe to Kash. The referee grabs the pipe holding Kash in place for a superkick from Storm and a three count.

The Tag Team Champions double team on Storm until D-Lo Brown comes out for the save. The damage has already been done and now they do a double team on D-Lo. Wild Cat Chris Harris comes out to save his partner, Storm. The American Dream Dusty Rhodes then shows up. The announcers explain he's there to offer any help to Harris in preparation for his title match later on in the evening. The tag champs run off while Dusty stands tall in the ring.

Winner: James Storm

Interview with Vince Russo

Russo talks about the deal with Fox and says he's not trying to protect AJ Styles. He also believes it was Konnan that trashed his office.

"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. BG James

The bout starts on the floor in the crowd. James gets Brown with a trash can shot. They continue to fight down the aisle into the crowd until James sees the stairs to the top level. He leads Brown up but Brown whips James to the edge. James puts on the brakes and decides it wasn't such a good idea so he leads Brown back down to the floor area where he gets a power bomb through a table. They continue to fight through the crowd until they get to the ring. By this point Brown has regained the advantage and hits the pounce for the three count.

After the match Brown grabs a chair but the rest of 3 Live Krew comes out for the save. I really didn't pay much attention to this match. It was not exciting in the least and had no wrestling involved. It was misusing two big guys who have great in ring ability.

Winner: Monty Brown

They show an interview done earlier that day with Desire. She talks about how she broke her L1 and cracked her tail bone. She also says that Sonny Siaki has been there for her through thick and thin. Trinity then comes out and attacks her lower back. The NWA has woken up and is starting a great women's feud.

Sonjay Dutt VS Amazing Red

Current X Champion, Frankie Kazarian, decides to come out for an up close and personal view as he did in the first match for this 2 out of 3 series for a shot at the X title. There was a lot of feeling out each other because they've become to know one another so well. After a couple of lock ups the bout goes to the outside. Red goes for a splash on the rails but Dutt throws him over and then hits a spring board splash. He brings Red into the ring for a 2 count. Red goes up to the top but Dutt catches him and sends him down. He gets caught up between the ropes and Dutt hits a swinging neck breaker. Both back up and Red goes again to the turnbuckle. Dutt pulls him down but Red reverses it to a modified sunset flip. Red again goes back to the top but Dutt gets back up and like a cat runs to the corner and hits a drop kick. It was a great move but Red does a really bad job of selling it as he slowly falls down in an over exaggerated roll from the top. Dutt gets a two count. Dutt goes for a 360 off the top but misses and Red hits the Red Spike Press for a three count.

The series is now tied at one a piece.

Winner: Amazing Red

Corporal Punishment Match, Michael Shane w/ Traci VS Shane Douglas

This has been a match that NWA fans have wanted to see for a long time. Who knew that Shane Douglas would be portrayed as the good guy though?

Starts off with a lock up that Shane turns into a head lock. Douglas reverses it and sends him into the ropes. Douglas hits gets a hip toss on Shane. Shane gets right back up, head scissors on Douglas, who's right back up, tosses Shane, leg sweep on Douglas and a pop up from both with a stare down. Douglas claps along with the crowd in appreciation for Shane's ability.

Douglas gets a wrist lock on Shane, who manoeuvres out, goes to the ropes, Douglas gets a drop toe hold sends Shane down for an arm bar. Shane gets out by going to the ropes. Shane goes for the waist lock from behind. Traci gets up and goes for the paddles. Douglas sees the set up and takes Traci down then lets Shane run towards him so he can move out of the way and Douglas sends Shane over the ropes right on top of Traci. On the outside Douglas gets a bottle of water and spits some out in Shane's face. Shane goes for a drop kick and Douglas catches it and tuns it into a sitting power bomb.

Back in the ring Traci goes for the distraction again. Shane gets the whip and beats on Douglas. Shane knows of Douglas' old shoulder injury from the ECW and sees that it's hurt. He targets it by hanging Douglas' arm from the top rope while he dangles on the outside. Shane then wraps his legs around the upper arm and pulls while Douglas' wrist is still tied to the rope. When Douglas gets back in the ring, Shane goes for a waist lock again, Douglas reverses it and sends Shane to the corner. Douglas gets the strap and finally gets some revenge for the last week as well as earlier on. Traci gets up and then gets pushed right back down. Traci isn't the kind of women that stands for that, so while Shane starts to mount a come back off the distraction, Traci gets back up and goes after Douglas. She holds him while Shane goes for the Superkick. Douglas shrugs Traci off, catches Shane's boots and into a sunset flip pin.

Winner: Shane Douglas

They show a confrontation between Russo and Konnan in the back. The New York Connection, Trinity, Gilberti and Swinger, are in the back attacking pat Kenney

They do a promo with Goldie reviewing what happened with Eric Watts. She says Russo shouldn't have hired him back and now Abyss will be going after AJ's world title.

Mike Tenay hypes the World Cup on May 26

Team Mexico (Hector Garza and Abismo Negro) vs. Team Canada (Petey Williams and Bobby Rude w/ Scott D'Amore)

Williams and Garza start things off. Garza has always been the bigger guy in these X bouts. He shows his strength over Williams by catching him off the ropes, picking him up and throwing him down to the mat over Garza's head. Abismo in and Williams gets him down for a two count. Garza makes the save. Rude comes in to face Garza and for the first time in the X division, Garza has to face someone his exact size. Garza extends his hand for a shake. Rude looks around for advise and Garza hits him in the back of his legs. Negro comes in for a little two on one. Negro hits a monkey flip and then hits a bulldog while Garza holds Rude in the air. After attempting a pin on Rude, Williams gets in and now all four men are going at it. Abismo gets the head scissors on Williams, spring board and a roll up. D'Amore shoves the hockey stick in the ring, hooking Abismo's leg. Then nails Abismo in the mid section. Williams then gets the pin and the win.

Jerry Lynn comes out and Team Canada make their way back up the ramp. Lynn says he's tired of D'Amore sticking his nose in and says he wants just five minutes with him. D'Amore offers up Bobby Rude next week. If Lynn wins he gets five minutes with D'Amore, if Rude wins then Lynn has to step down as Captain of team NWA.

Winner: Team Canada

They announce on May 13, the Best Damn Sports show will talk about NWA's deal with Fox Sports. Dusty Rhodes comes out and says he can't wait till next week because he's going to tag with James Storm to face the Kid Kash and Dallas. They go to the back where Konnan has been attacked and is laying on the ground. Truth gets pulled away so he can be handcuffed to the poll for the main event.

AJ Styles defends the World Belt against Wild Cat Chris Harris

Raven and Truth are handcuffed and chained at ringside so Russo can keep an eye on them. They start off with a lock up and end up rolling on the ropes all around the ring fighting for the advantage. They come to a clean hard break in the middle of the ring. Styles gets a side headlock. They go to the ropes and AJ hits Harris' shoulder. Seeing that he injured it he pulls it to everyone's attention and then targets it. He locks on an arm bar for a submission, gets shot to the ropes, Harris also to the ropes and he puts on the brakes which sends AJ flying backwards. AJ goes for the waist lock and then an arm bar, Harris gets out, pushes AJ to the ropes, flips AJ over with his feet. Harris then goes to the ropes, AJ leap frogs, Harris comes back again, AJ goes for the leap again, but Harris puts on the brakes, AJ one step ahead also puts on the breaks and gets a standing drop kick on Harris. AJ does a knee drop and gets a two count.

AJ goes for a high risk on the turnbuckle where Raven is handcuffed. Raven grabs AJ's legs and AJ goes out to the floor. Harris uses the distraction and gets a superplex. Harris gets a running slam on AJ and the clothesline but only a two count. Harris goes to the top and AJ cuts him off and gets a back suplex. Konnan comes out with cutters and lets Truth go but leaves Raven hanging. Truth gives a running clothesline on AJ. Heavy D and Black Shirt security come out and take Truth and Konnan away. Harris gets an elbow off the top and AJ kicks out at two for a big pop.

AJ hits the splash in the corner. Harris gets the Catatonic and AJ out at two because Raven pulls the referee out. He grabs the keys and un-cuffs himself. He comes in with a steel chair. Nails Harris and then does the set up with the drop toe hold. The camera shoots down the aisle and there's Sabu! They battle over the building and then Sabu chases Raven away and out of the arena. Back in the ring, Harris goes for another Catatonic and AJ reverses it into a crucifix pin combo for a two count. They both go for a clothesline and both connect. They do it again but still no one's down. Kid Kash pops up and nails Harris with the pipe. AJ gets a drop kick and the three count.

Harris can't believe AJ took that victory and they get into a shoving match, Raven comes back as does Truth. They brawl until the locker room empties to tear them apart. Russo comes out and says if you all want your rematches you all get it next week in a four way for the title. He then shouts, every one kill each other and the 20 something men in the ring continue to rip each other apart.

Winner: Still Champion, AJ Styles

That was a great show and solid effort on everyone's part. The women's division is starting to look like it's happening. Russo is playing his role great by not being slanted or one sided like other one dimensional authority characters on other wrestling shows. On this show, the NWA showed they have a large talent roster that is a force to be reckon with. June 4 will be the day that determines whether this company is going to make it or not.
