SummerSlam set for Toronto

For months, it was a well-kept secret. Now it's official. Canada is getting another WWE pay-per-view, and it's SummerSlam, set for Toronto on August 15th.

The show will be at the Air Canada Centre.

The WWE confirmed the location today in an email to its travel package subscribers.

"This coming SummerSlam will be held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday, August 15, 2004. We are pleased to offer the following two SummerSlam Travel Packages," the email reads.

Back in January, the Ottawa Sun's Tim Baines talked to WWE Canada President Carl DeMarco about the rumours of the PPV in Toronto.

"It's not a done deal, but I'd love to see this for the fans in Canada," DeMarco said at the time. "We brought people from around the world to see Wrestlemania. It was phenomenal.

"It's too soon to tell if it'll be here. I'm lobbying. I'm doing everything I can. I'm hoping we'll get an answer within 90 days. I don't think we'll know before Wrestlemania."

This is the first SummerSlam to come from the Great White North, but the second outside of the U.S. -- SummerSlam was live from Wembley Stadium in London, England in 1992. Toronto has played host to two WrestleManias at the SkyDome.
