TNA: Still stuck in a rut
DONNIE ABREU -- SLAM! Wrestling
TNA has had a few brutal episodes as of late. This week there were signs of what made their show work so well just a few short months ago, but there were also reasons to groan. The \"Jeff Jarrett\" show continues as does the extended bad promo. \"Let them fight!\".
X-Division #1 Contender\'s Match: Kid Kash VS. Christopher Daniels VS. Low Ki
This was a solid X-Division three way like I haven\'t seen in a long time. Lots of high spots, a ton of stiff shots, and a really fast pace. I got to see all my favorite Low Ki spots ń the Dragon Sleeper over the top rope, the Iron Octopus and the Ki Krusher. He actually managed to pin Daniels with that last move while Kash was sleeping outside the ring. Great match!
Winner: Low Ki
The new NWA tag team champions BG James and Ron Killings (of the 3 Live Kru) came out to the ring with their shiny new belts and their keychain, Konnan. BG did his \"TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS OF THE WOOOOOOOORLD\" gimmick. Geez. That\'s so 1998. They then challenged any team in the back to take them on. The three time tag champs, America\'s Most Wanted came down and demanded a shot. Jarrett interfered and wanted to know if AMW would back him up in his title defence. They said, hell no. This promo went on for another 10 minutes and involved Simon, Swinger, Gilberti, David Young, AJ, and Eric Watts. So much for the non stop action. Backstage we had a promo from Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin. Sabin said he is refocused and thinks it\'s time for Ultimate X two! Whooo hooo!
Michael Shane and Shane Douglas (with Tracy) VS. Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin
Douglas\' lack of speed is really exposed in a match with three flyers like this. Douglas used a power offence to dominate the smaller athletes. The X guys carried this match beautifully. Once again Shane picked up the win after cheating. The Eddy Guerrero of TNA keeps rollin\'.
Winners: Shane and Shane
Backstage we had more friction within the unit of Swinger, Diamond and Gilberti. Cool piece as they show footage from last week when 270 pounder, \"X\" did a somersault off the top rope and landed hard on the ramp. They showed camera angles from the top rope looking down at the floor. Scott D\'Amore was shown saying that X had no regard for his own body, but if he had connected with that move, he might have killed Chris Sabin.
\"X\" VS. Don Harris
X showed off his top rope offence once again, but unfortunately there isn\'t much you can do in the ring with Heavy D. Harris seemed to have the advantage for a very brief time, but Kid Kash interfered and used a chain to knock out the head of security and give X another win. This match was short and uneventful.
Backstage, Daniels found Low Ki and destroyed him!
NWA Tag Team Title #1 Contender\'s Match: Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger VS. Glen Gilberti and David Young VS. America\'s Most Wanted
The 3 Live Kru watched this match from the ramp. The two heel teams are all part of the same faction and were supposed to gang up on AMW, but they couldn\'t get themselves together and started pushing and shoving each other, allowing the former champs to get offence in. Late in the match, David Young had it won with a spinebuster, but Swinger shoved him off and a brawl ensued. A northern lights suplex later and AMW are back in the title picture.
Abyss, Kevin Northcutt and Joe Legend (with Don Callis) VS. Raven, Julio Dinero and CM Punk
Punk took a ton of punishment from all three baddies before finally making a hot tag to Raven. Very cool looking move by Northcutt: an overhead release pumphandle suplex.
Big staredown between Abyss and Raven. Raven took it to him and nailed a DDT. The ref was distracted by a scrap on the outside. Callis tosses a steel chair into the ring, which Abyss used to spear the former ECW champion. Abyss scored the pin.
Winners: Abyss, Kevin Northcutt and Joe Legend
After the match, Abyss nailed the Gathering with a double chokeslam and then choked Raven out. He followed that up with a huge wind up into the Black Hole Slam. Raven and Abyss could have a very entertaining program. A pretaped promo with Roddy Piper was shown. He was beating on a boxing dummy and saying that he would be back in TNA on December 10th with back up. Don West shilled for the new ėvideo-on-demand\' feature that will be available on TNA\'s website as of tomorrow.
NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Jeff Jarrett VS. AJ Styles
AJ started the match wrestling Jarrett\'s more methodical style -- showing that he can \"work\". Styles then picked up the pace a little and took control of the match. Jarrett regained the advantage when the fight went to the outside and Jarrett smacked a flyin\' Styles with a chair in the face. Apparently the ref \"HAS to give some leeway\" (according to Mike Tenay). Keep in mind TNA has a rule where champions are supposed to lose their title on a disqualification. Anyway. When they were back in the ring, JJ threw AJ to the outside and hit a high cross body over the top to the outside. He then screamed, \"There\'s your (expletive deleted) X-Division!\" Nice spot when Callis handed Jarrett a guitar. The ref was distracted by Eric Watts who ran down to try and help AJ, but as JJ went to swing it, Styles lept up and spunk kicked it to smithereens! Sweet. Watts then slid into the ring and choke slammed the champ. The red shirt security team tried to help Jarrett, but The Gathering ran them off. When Callis tried to interfere, Watts ran him to the back. Abyss came out but was jumped by America\'s Most Wanted. It\'s seemingly down to Jarrett and Styles. Oopps, we had a ref bump. Styles had Jarrett beat. Jimmy Hart slid into the ring and ripped his jacket off showing a referee\'s shirt. Styles hit a version of the Spiral Tap, and Hart made the slowest count in history, all the while looking behind him for the guy who was supposed to pull him out of the ring. Kid Kash was that guy. He delivered a punch that never connected and Hart sold it like a gunshot. Guitar shot. Pin. Dammit.
Winner: Jeff Jarrett
Jarrett and Kash celebrated side by side after the match.
Raven then cut a promo telling Abyss that he did the impossible, by escaping a black hole. Next week Abyss will taste another DDT.
