Legends of Wrestling, the popular wrestling video game series from
Acclaim, looks to have the "Ultimate" game for it's next release.
Legends of Wrestling: Showdown will feature the Ultimate Warrior, one
of the most popular wrestlers during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The
Warrior, who had teased a return to the squared circle through his website,
announced his participation with the game Tuesday. In a statement released
today on the site, Warrior said he looks forward to working with Acclaim on
this title.
"I am thrilled to be working again with Acclaim's talented, creative and
professional staff on the new, next-level of their Legends of Wrestling:
SHOWDOWN video game!" he said.
Showdown looks to go a big step beyond previous Legends of Wrestling titles.
With over 70 wrestlers, including Warrior, Bret Hart and Scott Steiner, the
game looks to have one of the strongest character line-ups in wrestling game
history. The game will also have several match types, including table, first
blood, cage, battle royal, three way and four way dance and six and
eight-man elimination matches.
"We revamped the Legends of Wrestling brand and created a ground-breaking
game that establishes a new benchmark for future wrestling titles," said
David Knies, brand director for Acclaim in a release. "To demonstrate our
commitment to this game, we enlisted a new development team, secured a dream
roster of wrestlers, developed new gameplay features and incorporated a
realistic art style."
Legends of Wrestling: Showdown is expected to be in stores in April 2004.
