ECCW WAR GAMES GOES ON FRIDAY!!
In one of the most highly anticipated
matches in
recent memory, eight of the top wrestlers in the Pacific Northwest will do
battle on Friday inside the confines of a 15-foot high steel
cage as
ECCW presents "War Games" from the Croatian Cultural Centre in
Vancouver.
Former champion Scotty Mac heads a team which includes his tag team
partner Ja
Jacobe, Vid Vain, and the returning R.A.G.E. against a unit captained by
current
champion Vance Nevada featuring Disco Fury, NWA Canadian Junior champion
Major
Hardway, and Rico Quinones.
Fans that were on hand for last month's
bloody and
gruelling cage match know what to expect when these eight dominant
fixtures lock
horns in a battle for survival. Tickets are available at the
door.

SARAH SEES SWEET SUCCESS DOWN SOUTH
Sweet Sarah.
Just a few weeks ago, we reported that
"Sweet"
Sarah Griffin, who has dazzled audiences from coast to coast in Canada
was on
her way to Mexico. We have now learned that after only three
weeks, she
has captured the LLF women's title and is on one of the most aggressive
campaigns in the history of the women's division in that country.
For those of you unfamiliar with this
dynamic up
and comer, she was first introduced to the sport by fluke just over two
years
ago when she was working at a campus night club in Winnipeg. By
her own
admission, she didn't even watch wrestling, but when a promoter dropped
of a
promotional tape seeking to bring a wrestling show to the club, she saw
the tape
and thought, "I need to give this a try." She trained for a matter of
weeks with Top Rope Championship Wrestling before hitting the road with the
Can-Am Wrestling Federation. In the time since, she has trained
with the
likes of Phil Lafon, Steve Rivers, and Eddie Watts honing her
skills. In
2002 and 2003 she has appeared in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, the
Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and
Pennsylvania. Expect to see more from this dominant fighting
femme.
DRU ONYX TO INVADE THE UNITED KINGDOM
Dru Onyx.
Internet Wrestling Syndicate headliner, Dru
Onyx is headed to England next week to appear for
NWA (UK)
Hammerlock. The former IWS champion will have a unique opportunity to
prove why
he is considered one of Canada's best heavyweights on the world stage.
NWA (UK)
Hammerlock is Britain's finest promotion for technical wrestling, and
through
its ties with the National Wrestling Alliance is part of a proud hundred
year
tradition of grappling excellence, stretching from current NWA World
Champion,
A. J. Styles, to the first undisputed World Champion, Karl Gotch, who
won in
1908. The six foot two inch, 325 pound Dru
Onyx was
trained by Quebec wrestling legend Marc "Le Grizzly" Pilon and made his
professional wrestling debut, June 12th, 1999. Dru was born in the
Barbados,
grew up in Chomedey, Laval, Quebec and presently makes his home in the West
Island of Montreal. Here in Canada, the Butcher from Barbados wrestles
under his
real name Dru Onyx, but while wrestling abroad he will be saluting his
heritage
by wrestling under his family title SoA, the Spirit of Allah.

THE AXE CUTS DOWN FINAL OPPONENT ON OCT 29TH
One of the most dominant wrestlers in Central
Canadian wrestling rings over the past three years, the 350 pound Axe, has
recently decided to hang them up. The charismatic, doube tough
heavyweight
has engaged in some memorable boust against the likes of Jim Neidhart,
Tatanka,
Vance Nevada, and Jim Duggan during his short but storied ring
career. The
Axe, better known to his friends as Steven Hoel was always a fan of the
sport
before receiving his formal introduction to the ring by Manitoba
wrestler/promoter "Beautiful" Bobby Jay in 1999. In the years
since, he
has risen to the top of a number of promotions in the prairie provinces
in some
of the most physical matches ever witnessed. As of late, the
slef-professed "Mastodon of Love" has experienced severe bouts of
post-concussion head trauma which has been lingering despite a break
from his
active ring schedule. With his family as his primary
consideration, he has
bid adieu to the ring sport. Wrestling has lost one more Large Green
Mammal. You will be missed. But do not fret, The Axe is
expected to
remain very active in the "message board community".
AARON IDOL RETURNS TO THE RING
After a three and a half month absence,
outstanding mat technician Aaron Idol is getting ready to return to the
ring. Idol, who engaged in one of the most aggressive mat
campaigns of any
newcomer in 2002 with dates from coast to coast in Canada was sidelined
with a
shoulder injury in July and has been recovering and preparing for a ring
return
since that time. Idol has appeared for Real Action Wrestling in the
Maritimes, the Prince George, BC-based Maniac Wrestling Alliance (where
he held
the Northwestern title), and Extreme Canadian Championship
Wrestling. He
was slated to make his return in Winnipeg rings a few eeks ago, but a
vehicle explosion on the Trans-Canada highway halted that
endeavour. Idol
steps in the ring on Friday night in Vancouver with the highly
touted Matt
Classic, with him he has had an intense professional rivalry over
the past
year.
CANADIAN WRESTLING FEDERATION NEWS
Rob Stardom.
This NWA member promotion has been running
two weekly cards since mid-September in Winnipeg, with a Wednesday
night
club show, and a Thursday show emanating from the Northwood community
centre. News this week states that due to less than stellar
attendances at
the Wednesday night events, the weekly schedule will cease at the end of
this
month in favor of monthly events from that venue. Houses have been
between
75 to one hundred people. Their October 16th card at Northwood
community
club looked dismal at the onset with only four wrestlers in the locker
room. A chance visit by T.J. Bratt and Ryan Wood saw them quickly
added to
the card to bring up the roster number to SIX!!
Two big matches that are a MUST SEE on the
immediate horizon, though. Newly crowned NWA British Commonwealth
champion, Spyder takes on NWA Canadian champion Rob Stardom in a title
vs. title
match on October 24th. Just five days later, Stardom meets Canadian
wrestling legend Kerry Brown in a barbed wire death match.
Current champion: Rob
Stardom
Junior champion: Ryan Wood
Tag Team champions: Brian Jewel & Steve
Cox
RIVER CITY WRESTLING DROPS THE ZEN
River City Wrestling had also been running
two
weekly shows in Winnipeg with two night club shows on Wednesday and
Thursday
nights. Their Wednesday night shows from Teddy Bob's in the Stock
Exchange
Hotel have continued to draw well, but after five weeks, the promotion
opted to
pull out of their commitment with the Zen Cabaret. Our sources
indicate
that the Zen may itself be facing financial troubles.
Current champion: Cliff Corleone
Tag Team champions: Reggie Gallagher &
Justin

WHO IS THE HOTTEST WOMAN IN THE CANADIAN
INDEPENDENTS?
In the last issue, we told you about the
upcoming
poll to determine who you think is the hottest woman in the Canadian
independents. This has been a subject of heated debate whenever

top wrestling insiders get together. With a countless number of
beautiful
women involved as wrestlers, valets, referees, announcers, and even a
promoter
or two, just who takes top honors. We want to throw that question
out to
this field of industry insiders. Just who do you think
deserves to be
recognized as Canada's hottest female star? We have already
received 18
nominations and pictures of the nominees are posted at http://www.geocities.com/canadianwrestlemedia/sexiest.html
E-mail your nominations (with pictures if possible) to us here
