Gail Kim wins WWE Women\'s belt

Just in time for Canada Day, Toronto\'s Gail Kim made her WWE TV debut on RAW Monday night, and walked away with the WWE Women\'s title.

Kim won the title in a seven-woman battle royal near the beginning of the show, broadcast live from Buffalo, N.Y.

The others in the match were WWE Womens Champ Jazz, Trish Stratus, Victoria, Ivory, Molly Holly and Jacqueline. For her debut, Gail wore a black, two-piece, Matrix-like outfit.

Ivory was the first eliminated, followed by Jazz, Jacqueline and Molly Holly.

That left Trish, Victoria and Gail. After giving Gail a clothesline, Victoria and Trish battled on the top turnbuckle. Trish landed on the apron and was knocked to the floor. Victoria went after Gail. After pounding her for a minute, Victoria picked up Gail for a power bomb. Gail turned it into a head scissors, flipped Victoria over the top rope to the floor and Gail held on to the ropes for the win.

For more on the 5-foot-4, 125-pound Gail Kim, see the interview she did with SLAM! Wrestling back in April 2002, La Felina --\'Queen of the Cats\'. She still has a personal web site up at Lafelina.com.

Kim was trained by reknowned Toronto trainer Ron Hutchison, and schooled in Ontario indys like the AWF and Border City Wrestling. Before breaking into wrestling she studied kinesiology and nutrition at York University and Ryerson University in Toronto.

After signing with the WWE a few months back, she has worked in the OVW developmental territory, and on WWE house shows.
