Goldberg gets RAW deal tonight
By TIM BAINES -- Ottawa Sun

Okay, let\'s get this straight. Goldberg was brought into WWE to make a difference.

To be a one-man wrecking machine.

First, WWE throws Goldust\'s wig on him.

Then, the writers have him destroyed by The Rock.

Now it looks like WWE\'s eggheads are keeping him off tonight\'s Judgment Day pay-per-view.

Maybe Goldberg\'s injured to the extent that he can\'t be involved in a match. Maybe there\'s a planned run-in on one of the matches.

But he can\'t make a difference sitting on his butt. He needs to wrestle.

- The matches for tonight\'s pay-per-view: Brock Lesnar vs. The Big Show (stretcher match); Triple H (with Ric Flair) vs. Kevin Nash (with Shawn Michaels); a battle royal for the intercontinental championship will feature Rob Van Dam, Kane, Booker T, Lance Storm, Christian, Goldust, Chris Jericho and Test; Team Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero and a mystery partner in a ladder match (Eddie\'s regular partner Chavo will be out of action for awhile after tearing a biceps Tuesday night); fatal four-way for the women\'s title with Jazz vs. Trish Stratus vs. Jacqueline vs. Victoria; Torrie Wilson vs. Sable (bikini contest); La Resistance vs. Scott Steiner and Test; Chris Benoit, Spanky and Rhyno vs. Full Blooded Italians; and Mr. America vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Former WCW wrestler Dale Torborg got the pink slip from the Florida Marlins. He was the strength and conditioning coach and was let go along with his father Jeff, who was the team\'s manager.

Booker T, suffering from influenza and dehydration, missed RAW.

The 1wrestling.com website suggests that Kurt Angle will return as a heel, despite a recent swing towards fan-favourite status. One suggestion making the rounds is that somehow Angle, not Hulk Hogan, could be behind Mr. America\'s mask when he finally shows his face.

Oh, what a rush! Legion of Doom, or Road Warriors, or whatever you want to call them are back, losing to Kane and Van Dam on RAW. Animal weighs in near 290 lbs., while Hawk has trimmed down to 250. While they would like to finish their career in WWE, there are already suggestions that their stay may be brief.

Just got done reading Greg Oliver\'s wonderful blast from the past: The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, The Canadians. To sum it up: Wow! This is a must-read for those of us who remember Canadian stars like The Love Brothers, Edouard Carpentier, Sailor White, Don Leo Jonathon, Big John Quinn, Gene Kiniski, Sweet Daddy Siki, Abdullah the Butcher, Ivan Kolof, Mad Dog Vachon, Gilles \"The Fish\"Poisson, Dominic Denucci, Angelo Mosca and Waldo Von Erich. Many of today\'s current wrestling stars are included, too. I easily read this book over the course of two days. It\'s hard to put down. The author heads up the recently-rejuvenated SLAM! Wrestling website.

In an interview in New Zealand, Sting said he has been close to signing with WWE two or three times, but there\'s no deal in place yet.

Nathan Jones could soon turn heel and feud with The Undertaker.

There was something about RAW this past Monday that made Canadians tune in to TSN. Maybe it was the lead-in show, the NHL playoff game between Minnesota and Anaheim, or maybe it was just a good edition of RAW. According to Nielsen Media Research figures, WWE averaged a combined audience of 1.025 million Canadian viewers -- up 30% from the season-to-date average. There was a 14% increase in adults 18-49 and 33% in males 18-24.

Canadian Professional Wrestling, with International Wrestling, will host Canadian Conflict May 24 at 7 p.m. at the CPW Arena in Hull (122 Berri St.). The main event has Dynamite TommyBlade, Thunder and Dave Le Justicier facing Wild Dangerous Dan and The Black Panthers. Other matches: Gay Sauriol vs. Paranoid Jake Matthews; The Drunken Scotsmen vs. Tray Hugh Mongus and Psycho; MVP Michael Von Payton vs. Wild Ace; and James Tyrell vs. Shane Simmons. Mr. Know It All Shawn Demers will also fight. A tournament to crown a CPW cruiserweight champ will begin June 7 at No Remorse.
