Return engagement for Stampede Wrestling
By CAMERON MAXWELL -- Calgary Sun
THE KING OF PAIN -- Just about the only thing missing is the voice of the late Ed Whalen.
But it'll still be a ring-a-ding-dong-dandy when Stampede Wrestling returns to Calgary on Friday night at the Ogden Legion.
The reason is a joint celebration to mark wrestling guru Stu Hart's 88th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Stampede Wrestling.
"I think it's going to be a really good show and people will get to see one of the best wrestling brands in North America," said Harry Smith, grandson of Hart and son of the late Davey Boy Smith.
Smith will be fighting in the main event, a tag-team match with partner TJ Wilson against AJ Styles and the Black Dragon.
In fact the night's card includes a veritable who's who of up-and-coming wrestling stars and some names Stampede Wrestling fans will remember well.
The semi-main for the show is a hardcore match between Sabu, wrestling's version of a serial killer, and Ted Hart, which promises to be an entertaining bout. The card will also see Nattie Neidhart taking on rival Belle Lovitz.
Longtime Stampede Wrestler Bruce Hart is in action against Principal Richard Pound.
Also scheduled is a tag-team match involving Apocalypse, Juggernaut, Dave (The Rave) Swift and Highlander. Rounding out the lineup is a six-man tag event, pitting Duke Durrango, Johnny Devine and Randy Myers against Kwik Kick Kirk, Jason Carter and Rod Rage. Tickets are available at the door for $24.50 and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
