Updating the Mania stats
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

Now that WrestleMania is in the history books, it\'s time to get down to business and update the WM Stat Sheet.

Before I begin, I want to thank everyone who e-mailed me with corrections from the first list, as well as all the feedback I got. I urge all of you to e-mail me with any thoughts you have about the list.

Also want to quickly mention that, by request, I have assembled a list of the 86 Battle Royal participants in Mania history. Hillbilly Jim has competed in the most at three.

Now onto the highlights:

First-timers

  • Eight wrestlers making their WrestleMania debuts this year, pushing the grand total to 209 wrestlers having competed in matches at Mania.
  • Of those eight wrestlers, four recorded victories (Nathan Jones, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin and Brock Lesnar) while four were defeated (Victoria,Chavo Guererro Jr., Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno).
  • The only debuting wrestler to not be in a title bout was Nathan Jones.
  • Interesting to note that Victoria and Lesnar were both pictured in last year\'s WrestleMania program. Randy Orton was also included, but he is currently on the injured list.
  • Of the first-timers, three had been on WWE TV in various capacities at the time of WrestleMania 18 (Rhyno, Victoria and Chavo). Rhyno is also the only one of this group to have previously appeared at a WrestleMania (at WM X-7‚s TLC match).
  • Of the first-timers, four were call-ups during the last 12 months from Ohio Valley Wrestling (Lesnar, Benjamin, Haas and Victoria). Jones came from the WWA, Mysterio Jr. was working independents and Mexican leagues, while Guererro Jr. and Rhyno were both employed previously by the WWF but did not have a match at a previous Mania.

Seasoned veterans

  • As mentioned previously, Hulk Hogan sits atop the WWF with the most WrestleMania matches with 12.
  • Shawn Michaels became the fifth wrestler to have 10 WrestleMania matches.
  • Shawn also competed in a match at Mania for the tenth time, becoming the fourth wrestler to do so (the others being Hogan, Undertaker and Bret Hart).
  • The next wrestler to join the 10-match club will likely be Triple H, who has now competed at eight WrestleManias. Steve Austin and The Rock are now at seven apiece.

Streak stats

  • The Undertaker did manage to continue his winning streak this year. He\'s now 11-0.
  • The Undertaker\'s win also caused some movements in the streak department for the Big Show. Show tied Goldust for the most Mania losses without a win at four.
  • Booker T and Vince McMahon had better be careful. At 0-2, they might be joining Show and Goldust on that list soon.
  • Matt Hardy avoided the 0-4 curse by beating Mysterio Jr. He\'s now at 1-3.
  • Christian\'s streak of three-straight WrestleManias winning a title belt remains intact, as he did not compete this year.

Canadian content?

  • There were only three Canadians who competed at WrestleMania this year (Trish Stratus, Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit). That\'s a pretty low number, especially considering the number of Canadians on the current roster, including Lance Storm and Sean Morley, who competed on Heat.
  • Trish was the only Canadian to gain a victory at Mania this year, her first duke.

Looking forward to WM20

  • With the announcement that MSG will host next year\'s Mania, it will be the third time New York has hosted WrestleMania (the other two being WM1 and WM20). Only two other cities have hosted multiple WrestleManias, (Toronto hosted WM6 and WM18, and Atlantic City hosted WM4 and WM5), while two cities have hosted one Mania and co-hosted one Mania (Los Angeles co-hosted WM2 and hosted WM7, Chicago co-hosted WM2 and hosted WM13).
  • Undertaker could tie Hogan for the most WM matches at 12.
  • If Hogan does compete, he has the opportunity to be the second 10-match winner in WM history.
  • Jeff Hardy, Buh Buh Ray and D-Von Dudley could all join Goldust and Big Show on the 0-4 list.
  • Edge, who expects to be back in time for next year\'s Mania, could join Earthquake as the only Canadians to have four wins with no losses at Mania.
  • Several wrestlers on the current roster could have their Mania debut matches next year. Those include: Lance Storm, Randy Orton, Batista, Shannon Moore, Brian Kendrick, Jamal, Rosey, Rico, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Kiebler, John Cena, Nunzio, Bill DeMott, Billy Kidman, Dawn Marie, Sean O‚Haire, Funaki, Jamie Noble, Johnny Stamboli, Nidia, Paul Heyman, Tajiri, Rodney Mack, Christopher Nowinski, Stephanie McMahon, Eric Bischoff and Tommy Dreamer.
  • Bill Goldberg should make his Mania debut next year as well, as should Chris Kanyon. Toronto\'s Gail Kim, who is expected to make her WWE debut very soon, should be at Mania as well next year.
  • OVW call-ups could include any number of wrestlers, as there are many talented wrestles in WWE\'s farm system. Given that there are so many wrestlers that are not on the main roster right now that will be debuting/returning soon, there should be a fair number of wrestlers who will be on the main roster just before WM20.
  • Of course, what fun is doing these things without making a prediction or two. Here are five wrestlers that could have debut matches at next year\'s Wretlemania that are not on this year\'s main roster, based on who could be called up from OVW: Damaja, Rene Dupree, Nova, Doug Basham and Nick Dinsmore.
