WWE copyright suit scrapped
The WWE has lost a bid to stop a company from making light of its stars.
According to the Tribune-Review in Pittsburgh, U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone halted the copyright infringement suit saying that there is nothing wrong with Big Dog Holdings Inc. mocking the wrestling federation with its merchandise which includes T-shirts and action figures.
Cercone ruled that Big Dog Holdings is within its rights to produce the merchandice and that the First Amendment in the United States protects those rights. In passing his judgment, Cercone said that Big Dog Holdings "has the intention and effect to amuse rather than confuse the public".
The Santa Barbara-based company also produces T-shirts poking fun at 'American Idol', 'The Sopranos' and Nike.
