Few people can identify with the particular kind of suffering Jessica Gregg has had to endure the past few years.

Back on Feb. 16, 2010 Gregg was living a dream by competing in the final of the women’s 500-metres in short track speed skating at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Just 21 years old at the time and one of four skaters in the race, Gregg had visions of gold or at least another colour in her head as she prepared to tear around the track in the unpredictable, sometimes ruthless event at Pacific Coliseum.

And then, before she knew it, it had happened — she got pushed aside at the first corner and finished fourth behind Meng Wang of China, Canadian teammate Marianne St. Gelais and Arianna Fontana of Italy.

Heartbreak.
