It was a not-so-happy birthday for Vasek Pospisil at Wimbledon on Monday.
The 24-year-old from Vernon, B.C., was ousted by Robin Haase of the Netherlands, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, on Day 1 of the tournament.
Pospisil, who reached the second round last year at the All England Club, was unable to repeat that performance. The world No. 35 player committed 57 unforced errors to 17 by Haase.
It was also a rough day for Canada in the women’s draw.
Aleksandra Wozniak fell 6-1, 6-2 to world No. 10 Dominika Cibulkova. The 26-year-old from Blainville, Que., was out of the tournament in a mere 61 minutes. On the bright side, Wozniak will rise from 118th in the rankings after her three wins in qualifying.
Milos Raonic, Eugenie Bouchard, Frank Dancevic and Sharon Fichman will all be in action Tuesday.
