LONDON, England -- French Open champion Rafael Nadal and Britain's Andy Murray were a pair of second-round winners Wednesday at the $1 million Aegon Championships tennis event, a grass-court Wimbledon tuneup.

The world No. 1 Nadal defeated Aussie qualifier Matthew Ebden 6-4, 6-4, while the second-seeded Murray got past dangerous Belgian Xavier Malisse 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 at The Queen's Club. Nadal beat the 2009 Queen's Club titlist Murray in last week's semifinals at Roland Garros and bested Roger Federer in Sunday's final in Paris.

Up next for the reigning French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open champion Nadal will be Czech veteran Radek Stepanek, while the Australian Open runner-up Murray will battle tough Serb Janko Tipsarevic here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, eighth-seeded Croat Marin Cilic handled qualifier and French veteran Arnaud Clement 6-4, 6-4 and ninth-seeded Argentine star David Nalbandian dismissed Serb Ilija Bozoljac by an identical 6-4, 6-4 score. Nalbandian will tangle with seventh-seeded Spanish southpaw Fernando Verdasco on Thursday.

In other action involving seeds, No. 11 Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil outlasted Turkey's Marsel Ilhan 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5), a No. 14 Tipsarevic edged out American journeyman Michael Russell 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5), and No. 15 South African Kevin Anderson subdued American Donald Young 6-2, 6-4. Anderson is rewarded with a third-round matchup against four-time Queen's Club titlist Andy Roddick. The former U.S. Open champion Roddick captured this Wimbledon warmup from 2003-05 and again in 2007.

The aforementioned Stepanek, after getting bageled in the first set, upended 16th-seeded Croat Ivan Ljubicic 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 on a rain-interrupted Wednesday here.

This week's winner will take home $113,000.
