WIMBLEDON, England -- The 2011 Wimbledon singles champions will earn $1.8 million apiece this summer. The All England Club also announced that the total prize money for the 125th edition of the most prestigious Grand Slam event will increase to $23.8 million. "Leading international sports events, such as Wimbledon, are all about the quality of the players on show," said All England Club chairman Philip Brook. "It is important that we offer prize money which suitably rewards the players both for the box office appeal they bring to the event and for their supreme performances on court." The 2010 Wimbledon singles champions -- Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams -- each pocketed $1.54 million.
