Eugenie Bouchard looked eager to dismiss her critics after falling in the second round at the Rogers Cup this month.

The 20-year-old from Westmount, Que., made easy work of her opponent, Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia, on Monday in the first round at the Connecticut Open in New Haven.

Bouchard won both sets 6-1, 6-1, and next faces Australia’s Samantha Stosur in the second round.

Stosur defeated Japan’s Kurumi Nara 7-6(5), 6-7(10), 6-2 in their tightly fought first-round matchup.

Meanwhile, another Canadian was in action a little further south at the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Open Monday afternoon.

Frank Dancevic, 29, of Niagara Falls, Ont., knocked off Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in the first round.

Dancevic next faces American Donald Young, who’s seeded 11th in the tournament.
