MONTREAL - Canadian tennis sensation Eugenie Bouchard could square off against world No. 1 Serena Williams next Friday at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
The draw, announced at the Montreal Casino on Friday, has both stars set to face each other in the quarterfinals of the $2.4 million WTA event.
Bouchard, 20, a Wimbledon finalist last month, is seeded fifth at her hometown tournament while Williams, a 17-time Grand Slam champion, is the top seed. Both received first-round byes in the event at Uniprix Stadium.
They have met once previously, in Cincinnati last year, where Bouchard took the first set 6-4 against Williams before dropping the next two sets, 2-6, 2-6.
One Canada-U.S. showdown is already on the Rogers Cup slate.
Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que. will meet world No. 22 Sloane Stephens on Monday, the first day of the main draw.
Francoise Abanda, a wildcard entry from Montreal, will have a tough first-round matchup against No. 10 seed Dominika Cibulkova.
Also on Friday, Gloria Liang of Mississauga, Ont. earned the final berth in Saturday's qualifying matches.
Liang, 17, defeated fellow Canadian Maria Patrascu 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in a pre-qualifying tournament that began Tuesday and included nine up-and-coming Canadian players.
Liang, ranked 1,204th on tour, will be in action on Saturday in the first round of qualifying.
