MONTREAL -- While the name Eugenie Bouchard is on every tennis fan's lips this summer, another young Montrealer is certainly on the radar.

Francoise Abanda, 17, made the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time this week in Washington, D.C.

Abanda, ranked No. 214 in the world, lost her first match to American Vania King but received good news Thursday evening when she was added to the main draw of her hometown Rogers Cup in Montreal.

With a shoulder injury behind her, she's ready to parlay her success on the Challenger Tour to success on the planet’s top circuit.

The teenager reminded QMI Agency this week that she once nearly beat Bouchard in a Challenger event near Montreal three years ago. She was 14.
