Eugenie Bouchard was sent home from Madrid in the blink of an eye.

The 20-year-old Canadian from Westmount, Que., fell 7-6 (3), 6-2 to world No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the opening round at the Madrid Open on Monday.

Radwanska clinched the win in 92 minutes.

“The tiebreak was the biggest key,” Radwanska told the Associated Press after the match. “I did a couple of good shots in the tiebreak and managed to win that, and gave me more confidence in the second set.”

Radwanska moves on to face Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second round while Bouchard heads to Italy for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, another WTA Premier tournament.
