Canadian Eugenie Bouchard's surprising run at the Family Circle Cup came to an end Friday.

Bouchard, ranked 114th in the world, lost 6-2, 6-1 to former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the quarterfinals of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C. It was the first time Bouchard has advanced to the quarters of a WTA Premier tournament.

Jankovic, seeded ninth and ranked 18th in the world, overpowered Bouchard a day after the Canadian got past Australian Samantha Stosur for her first career win over a top-10 opponent. Stosur retired with a leg injury with Bouchard leading 6-1, 2-0.

The Williams sisters stayed alive Friday, setting up a showdown in the semis.

Fifth-seeded Venus Williams beat fellow American Varvara Lepchenko 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the third round then knocked off another Yank, Madison Keys, 6-4, 6-4 to get into the semis. Top-seeded Serena Williams downed Mallory Burdette of the U.S. 6-4, 6-2 in the third round and Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the quarters.
