Former tennis darling Jennifer Capriati is in trouble once again, facing charges for allegedly stalking and punching her ex-boyfriend.

The incident, which occurred on Valentine’s Day at a North Palm Beach, Fla., gym, began when Capriati “started screaming" at Ivan Brannan Jr., 28, before striking him with her “fist four times in the chest,” according to a police report obtained by CNN.

Brannan’s allegations pushed Palm Beach County courts to issue the 36-year-old former world No. 1 a summons Wednesday to appear in court on April 17, according to the Associated Press.

"The current facts being circulated by Mr. Brannan are an overexaggeration and the police report is one-sided in (his) favour, since they failed to get Ms. Capriati's side of the story," a statement from Capriati’s legal camp read.

Brannan claims he had to lock himself in a locker room to escape Capriati's rage.

Less than a week later, he approached police to inform them of a number of other incidents in which he said Capriati stalked and harassed him, according to the report.

Brannan said the pair dated for less than a year before splitting in February 2012.

"We will make sure that Ms. Capriati's side of the story is fully conveyed, and when the truth comes out, she will be vindicated from these charges,” Capriati’s representation said.

Capriati will have to face a judge in defence against an ex-boyfriend who claims she’s been stalking him since the pair broke things off more than a year ago.

It’s not the first time Capriati, a nine-time Grand Slam singles winner, has come under fire.

In 1993, the former tennis pro was charged with shoplifting. A year later she was arrested on misdemeanor marijuana charges.

More recently, Capriati suffered what a family spokesperson described as an accidental overdose on prescribed medication in 2010.
