Aleksandra Wozniak's season over over, a few weeks earlier than planned.
Tennis Canada announced Tuesday that Wozniak, this country's top-ranked female player, has been diagnosed with an AC joint sprain in her right shoulder and will miss at least the next six weeks of action, ending her 2012 season.
"I am keeping a positive attitude in spite of this new injury I suffered recently at the tournament in Quebec City," Wozniak said in a press release. "I was in a good position heading into the last events of the season because I didn't have a lot of points to defend. It's unfortunate as I was hoping to improve my ranking but I will come back stronger."
Wozniak, a 25-year-old native of Blainville, Que., is ranked 43rd in the world. She's been plagued by injuries for much of her career.
Despite the injury, Wozniak expects to be ready for the start of the 2013 WTA season and will compete in the opening tournaments in Australia.
