By Sports Network
NEW HAVEN, CT - Olga Govortsova joined French Open runner-up Sara Errani and former Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli as second-round winners Tuesday at the $637,000 New Haven Open at Yale, a final U.S. Open tune-up. Govortsova advanced after top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska retired in the second set due to a right shoulder injury. Govortsova led 6-0, 2-1 before the WTA No. 2 Radwanska's retirement. The 22-year-old Govortsova will face seventh seeded Maria Kirilenko on Wednesday. Kirilenko advanced via walkover when her scheduled second-round opponent, German Mona Barthel, pulled out of the draw due to an illness. The fourth-seeded Errani erased Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 6-3, while a fifth-seeded Bartoli snuck past rising American Sloane Stephens 6-1, 0-6, 6-3 on the hardcourts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. Errani and Bartoli will square off in Thursday's quarterfinals. One final opening-round match saw Chinese Zheng Jie drop Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 7-5, 6-2 on Day 3. The 2012 New Haven champion will collect $107,000.
