Wozniak close to Olympic berth despite loss
By QMI Agency

Aleksandra Wozniak moved closer to locking up a spot in the London Olympics despite losing in the quarterfinals of the Budapest Grand Prix.

Wozniak was bounced with a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-4 loss to Anna Tatishvili of Georgia Thursday, ending her most successful tournament run since 2009. Tatishvili, ranked 81st in the world, will play top-seeded Sara Errani of Italy in the semifinals.

Ranked 57th in the world entering the Budapest WTA tournament, Wozniak will likely move closer to a spot in the top 50 when next week's rankings are released. A spot in the top 50 would guarantee the Blainville, Que., native a spot in the Olympics.

Against Tatishvili, Wozniak won the first set before digging a 1-5 hole in the second set. She was able to force the set to a tiebreaker but wound up on the short end and Tatishvili closed it out in the final set.

Wozniak will play in the Mutua Madrid Open in Spain next week.
