German takes shine to Sid, our beer

Naturally, all it took for Andrea Petkovic to learn the legend of Sidney Crosby was a visit to Canada.

Petkovic, a Bosnia-born German who moved Thursday into the quarters of the Rogers Cup, revealed she was given a personalized, red Canadian No. 87 hockey jersey. She also posted a picture of her modelling the jersey -- a gift from a friend in Calgary -- to her Twitter account.

"I got a great jersey and I also got the history behind the jersey, why I got it," the likable, fun-loving 23-year-old said.

"Sidney Crosby was born in the same year as me, '87, and he has the (No.) 87. I actually saw when Canada beat the USA in the Olympic Games final and he (scored) the golden goal, I think.

"That's why I got (his jersey)."

Earlier in the tournament Petkovic lamented not being able to sample some Canadian beer this week.

"I hear you have really good beer here in Canada," she said. "That's OK, I will come back."

Sidney Crosby. Beer.

Maybe we should give Petkovic honorary Canadian citizenship.

Do you think it's a good idea for the U.S. Open to hold the men's final on a Monday?
