By Sports Network

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and second-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva were among Wednesday's second-round winners at the inaugural $618,000 Brussels Ladies Open, a final clay- court French Open tune-up.

Wozniacki beat American Varvara Lepchenko 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), while Zvonareva overcame Galina Voskoboeva 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 at Royal Primerose Tennis Club.

Up next for Wozniacki will be sixth-seeded Belgian favorite Yanina Wickmayer, who snuck past compatriot Alison Van Uytvanck 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Zvonareva will face seventh-seeded Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru in the quarterfinals on Thursday after the latter handled Czech Klara Zakopalova 6-3, 6-2.

Francesca Schiavone also advanced to the last eight after the third-seeded Italian topped American lucky loser Irina Falconi 6-4, 6-4. She will meet Japan's Ayumi Morita, who rallied to beat Australian Casey Dellacqua 1-6, 6-0, 7-5.

In the lone upset of Day 3, Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson battled back to stun fourth-seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Arvidsson's next opponent will be eighth-seeded Chinese Peng Shuai, who advanced with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over American Abigail Spears.

This week's champion will collect $103,000.
