Clijsters sidelined for a month
By Sports Network

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Australian and U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters will be sidelined for a month because of shoulder and wrist injuries.

The former world No. 1 from Belgium will miss next week's Fed Cup semifinal against the visiting Czech Republic in Charleroi.

Clijsters said a busy tennis schedule put too much stress on her right shoulder and wrist and she will not be able to hold a tennis racquet for a couple of weeks.

The 27-year-old Clijsters will also miss the Madrid Open next month.

"I don't want to force anything," the second-ranked Clijsters said on her website.

Last month, Clijsters retired from her fourth-round match at Indian Wells because of a shoulder problem, and then last week she lost to eventual champion Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals in Miami in a rather lethargic performance.

"I felt something was not quite right," Clijsters said. "There were too many successive aches and pains that just didn't want to disappear."

Do you think it's a good idea for the U.S. Open to hold the men's final on a Monday?
