Groth advances in rainy Hobart
By Sports Network

HOBART, Australia -- Aussie favourite Jarmila Groth was the lone second-round winner on a rainy Tuesday at the $220,000 Hobart International tennis event, a final Australian Open tune-up.

The sixth-seeded Groth grounded Austrian qualifier Tamira Paszek 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) before rain forced the suspension or postponement of four other matches on the hardcourts at Domain Tennis Centre.

Fourth-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci was leading Brit Elena Baltacha 6-3 and Belarusian Olga Govortsova was up on Chinese Peng Shuai 2-1 in the first set when rain halted play.

Matches for eighth-seeded German Angelique Kerber and unseeded American Bethanie Mattek-Sands were pushed back to Wednesday.

Top-seeded former Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli of France will play her second-round match Wednesday against Russian Elena Vesnina.
