By Sports Network

Hobart, Australia - Fourth-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci surged past fellow countrywoman Romina Oprandi, 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 to advance to the second round at the $220,000 Hobart International tennis event, a final Australian Open tuneup.

Other seeded winners on the first day of the event were Italy's Sara Errani and Germany's Angelique Kerber. The seventh-seeded Errani topped Russian Anna Chakvetadze, the 2007 champion here, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3; and an eight-seeded Kerber edged Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) on the hardcourts at Domain Tennis Centre.

There was one other first-round result Sunday as Japan's Ayumi Morita defeated Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).

Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko beat Israeli Shahar Peer in last year's finale here. The top seed is France's Marion Bartoli, and she'll meet Russian Dinara Safina on Monday night.
