Ivanovic falls in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG -- Former champion Ana Ivanovic was among Friday's quarterfinal losers at the $220,000 Luxembourg Open.

The fourth-seeded former world No. 1 Ivanovic succumbed to eighth-seeded German Julia Goerges 6-3, 6-1 on the indoor hardcourts at CK Sportcenter Kockelscheuer. Goerges whacked eight aces, while Ivanovic piled up six double faults in the 60-minute affair.

The former French Open champion Ivanovic, who titled here in Luxembourg in 2007, was fresh off her title in Linz last week.

In other quarterfinal action, Brit Anne Keothavong overcame Czech Iveta Benesova 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-4, Italian Roberta Vinci topped Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, and German Angelique Kerber drilled Slovenian Polona Hercog 6-2, 6-2.

Saturday's semifinals will pit Goerges against Kerber and Keothavong versus Vinci.

The newest champion here will take home $37,000.
