LUXEMBOURG -- Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic was an easy winner, while top-seeded Russian Elena Dementieva pulled out of her scheduled second-round match Thursday at the $220,000 Luxembourg Open.

The 2008 Luxembourg titlist Dementieva was slated to meet Slovenian Polona Hercog on Day 4, but the two-time major runner-up from Russia was unable to play because of inflammation in her right foot, thus giving Hercog a walkover into the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Ivanovic, fresh off her title last week in Linz, stayed red-hot with a 6-4, 6-1 handling of Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja on the indoor hardcourts at CK Sportcenter Kockelscheuer. The former French Open champion Ivanovic, of Serbia, captured this Luxembourg event in 2007.

Ivanovic's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be eighth-seeded German Julia Goerges.

A Day-4 upset came when Germany's Angelique Kerber cut down fifth-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova in 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 come-from-behind fashion. Hantuchova lost to Ivanovic in the final here three years ago.

Two other second-round results saw Brit Anne Keothavong douse Swiss veteran Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-2 and Italian Roberta Vinci outlast Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) in 2 hours, 41 minutes. Schnyder was last week's Linz runner-up to Ivanovic.

The other quarterfinals will pit Czech Iveta Benesova against Keothavong, Vinci versus Belgian Kirsten Flipkens and Hercog against Kerber.

The newest champion here will take home $37,000.
