MOSCOW -- Top-seeded former champion Jelena Jankovic was stunned by 268th-ranked Kazakhstanian teenager Zarina Diyas in Thursday's second-round action at the $1 million Kremlin Cup tennis event.

The qualifier Diyas, who just turned 17 here on Monday, routed the 2008 Moscow titlist Jankovic 6-1, 6-2 in 59 minutes on the indoor hardcourts at Olympic Stadium.

"I had nothing to lose," Diyas said. "I just relaxed and played my best tennis."

Diyas was leading 5-0 in the first set on Thursday when Jankovic called for a doctor. The Serbian star, who was battling an illness this week, said she was having a hard time breathing.

"I was suffering on the court but I really wanted to be out there and didn't want to retire," Jankovic said. "I finished as well as I could, but obviously it was tough for me to focus on my tennis."

The world No. 7 Jankovic hopes to recover in time for next week's season- ending WTA Championships in Doha, which will commence on Tuesday.

"Doha is a different type of tournament," Jankovic said. "You can lose a match and still win the whole tournament. So anything can happen, but for me the biggest concern is being healthy. I will see the doctors, take some blood tests and take some more medicine. We will see what happens and hopefully I can be ready in time."

Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Russian Maria Kirilenko avoided an upset by double-bagling Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko 6-0, 6-0 in a mere 50 minutes on Day 4. Kirilenko will face the upstart Diyas in Friday's quarterfinals.

Two other Russian women advanced on Day 4, as former top-10 star Anna Chakvetadze charged past Ukrainian qualifier Mariya Koryttseva 6-1, 6-2 and Vera Dushevina doused compatriot Elena Vesnina 6-4, 6-2. The Muscovite Chakvetadze captured this event back in 2006.

Chakvetadze and Dushevina will meet in an all-Russian affair here on Friday.

The other quarterfinals will pit second-seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka against seventh-seeded Russian Alisa Kleybanova and eighth-seeded Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez versus Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova.

This week's winner will collect $157,427.
