Three advance in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG -- Three non-seeds, including Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro, posted first-round wins Monday at the $220,000 Luxembourg Open.

Suarez Navarro held off German Kristina Barrois 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 on the indoor hardcourts at CK Sportcenter Kockelscheuer.

In other opening-round action, German Angelique Kerber whipped Russian wild card Yulia Putintseva 6-3, 6-1 and Brit Anne Keothavong handled French wild card Virginie Razzano 6-1, 6-4.

This week's top seed is 2008 champion Elena Dementieva. The 32-woman field also features last week's Linz titlist and former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic of Serbia.

Swiss Timea Bacsinszky, this week's sixth seed, bested German Sabine Lisicki in last year's Luxembourg finale.

The newest champion here will take home $37,000.
