OSAKA, Japan -- Top seeds Samantha Stosur of Australia and Marion Bartoli of France were among the second-round winners Wednesday at the HP Open.

The top-seeded Stosur cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Japan's Junri Namigata, while the second-seeded Bartoli thumped Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele, 6-2, 6-2.

Other winners Wednesday were Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn and Taiwan's Kai- Chen Chang. Tanasugarn rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 victory over American Coco Vandeweghe and will next play Chang in the quarterfinals. Chang captured the first set against fourth-seeded Maria Kirilenko, 6-4, before the Russian retired.

Stosur is gunning for her second straight Osaka title. She won this event last year to claim her first career WTA singles title. This year, the eighth-ranked player in the world won in Charleston and lost finals at Stuttgart and at the French Open.

Bartoli has yet to reach a final in 2010. This year's best results for the former Wimbledon finalist were semifinal appearances in Miami and Eastbourne.

The second round continues on Thursday with the featured match between Japan natives Kimiko Date Krumm, the sixth seed, and wild card entry Aiko Nakamura.

Also Thursday, third-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel takes on Japan's Ryoko Fuda, seventh-seeded Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic meets Italy's Alberta Brianti and American Jill Craybas squares off against Olga Savchuk of the Ukraine.

The winner of this tournament will collect $37,000.
