MONTREAL — Canada’s top-ranked women’s tennis player plans to shake off a wrist injury and take the court for the Rogers Cup in her hometown next week.

Aleksandra Wozniak is battling a right wrist injury that has kept her out of the past two tournaments, but Rogers Cup director Eugene Lapierre says the Canadian star believes she’ll be ready for the opening round.

Rogers Cup qualifying rounds start Friday, but Wozniak likely will get an invitation to the event and be able to sidestep those matches.

The resident of Blainville, Que., north of Montreal, pulled out of tournaments in Cincinnati and San Diego, suffering from tendinitis.

She’s the 52nd-ranked singles player on the WTA Tour.
