ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova highlighted Friday's quarterfinal winners at the $220,000 Istanbul Cup hardcourt tennis event.
The Russian Pavlyuchenkova charged past struggling Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-2. The 19-year-old Pavlyuchenkova will face Aussie Jarmila Groth in Saturday's semifinals.
Groth took out defending Istanbul champ Vera Dushevina, ousting the Russian in 7-5, 6-2 fashion. Dushevina doused Czech Lucie Hradecka in last year's finale here.
Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Andrea Petkovic reached the final four by swatting Brit Elena Baltacha 6-4, 6-0, and one other quarterfinal saw Russian Elena Vesnina handle Aussie, by way of Russia, Anastasia Rodionova, 7-5, 6-1. Baltacha stunned top-seeded French Open champion Francesca Schiavone here on Thursday.
The German Petkovic and Vesnina will square off in Saturday's other semi.
This week's champion will collect $37,000.
