Canada’s Daniel Nestor and partner Kristina Mladenovic were booted from the U.S. Open mixed doubles semifinals Wednesday.

Losing in three sets, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 12-10, to Belarusian Andrea Hlavackova and Czech Max Mirnyi, Nestor and his French partner bowed out in the mixed doubles final four at Flushing Meadows.

The defeat was not a great birthday treat for Nestor, the 15th-ranked doubles player in the world who turned 41 on Wednesday. He and Mladenovic double-faulted five times over the match, while also committing 20 unforced errors.

Hlavackova and Mirnyi will now face Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez in the final.
