Canada's Milos Raonic overcame an opening set loss Saturday to prevail over world No. 26 Feliciano Lopez and advance to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Open.

Raonic, No. 11 on the ATP rankings, defeated Lopez, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, during their third-round match in New York.

Dropping the grueling 52-minute first set didn't seem to rattle Raonic as he controlled the match moving forward.

The 22-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., sneaked 28 aces by Lopez, while the Spaniard managed only seven.

Raonic faces No. 9 Richard Gasquet in the Round of 16 on Monday.

Canadian duo Aleksandra Wozniak and Sarah Fichman lost their second-round women’s doubles match 6-2, 6-4 to Spain’s Anabel Marina Garrigues and Italy’s Flavia Pennetta.

In mixed doubles action, Toronto’s Daniel Nestor and French partner Kristina Mladenovic won their second-round match, 6-1, 7-6 (3) against Slovenia’s Katarina Srebotnik and Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic
